The Lifeline Canberra Spirit of Canberra Awards celebrate, acknowledge and inspire positive change within the Canberra community, recognising the efforts that improve the social, economic, environmental, or cultural well-being of the community.

Nominations are now open for the 2024 awards.

The awards encourage changemakers to put forward themselves, their organisations, their peers or community members for recognition of their hard work.

Everyone knows someone who is making a positive impact on those around them, so this is your chance to have their efforts acknowledged by the greater community.

Lifeline chief executive officer Carrie Leeson says the awards celebrate the work people do every day to make the world a better place.

“It’s all about inspiring positive change, whether it be a person or a place. We want to acknowledge the work people do to leave their environment in a better state than it was found in,” Carrie says.

“At the end of the day, trends come and go, but kindness, tolerance and inspiration stand the test of time.”

Now is the time to nominate someone who gives back to the community with the 2024 Canberra Spirit of Canberra Awards ceremony taking place on 24 October.

Carrie says the awards help build a positive community across the nation’s capital.

“Our role at Lifeline is to ensure that we continue to come together as a community, to instil compassion and kindness in every connection,” Carrie says.

“These awards allow us to have this incredibly important conversation in a new and exciting way.”

The awards encourage changemakers to put forward themselves, their organisations, their peers or community members for recognition of their hard work.

Starting 13 years ago as the Women of Spirit Awards, the group decided to change the name of the awards to the Spirit of Canberra Awards in 2024 to make it more inclusive.

“Everyone of all genders and ages do great things every day and we really wanted the awards to make sure everyone was recognised for their efforts,” Carrie says.

There are four categories, recognising individuals and organisations.

The Spirit of Resilience celebrates individuals who have overcome adversity and are bettering the community through their experiences.

Spirit of Hope is for either individuals or businesses who have a unique vision for the future of Canberra and are working towards that goal.

Spirit of Impact is designed for businesses and organisations making a difference.

The final award, the People’s Choice Award, is voted on by the community from a pool of finalists.

Carrie says the awards are a way to recognise the efforts of everyone who takes part in making the community a better place to be in.

“We want to make a point to include everyone, kids of all ages make a difference and we want them to know their efforts are recognised,” Carrie says.

Lifeline Canberra and the Spirit of Canberra judging panel encourage everyone to dig deep and think of the people who inspire them.

The Lifeline Canberra Spirit of Canberra Awards will be held on 24 October at Old Parliament House. Nominations close COB on Wednesday, 25 September.

Another anti men organisation. Needs fact checking but I’ve been told psychology is a profession that is now 90% female, but we only focus on roles where females are less prevelant sch as mechanics or builders. Where are the men to help men with mental health issues?
