Kissing the steel with the Garema Place bubbler

bubbler

Walking through Garema Place this lunchtime I realised that what I’d always assumed to be a bollard was in fact a bubbler.

Does it work? I wondered.

Well. Not at first. But eventually I was able to coax a sad dribble out of it.

And then… it wouldn’t stop.

In terms of making bottled water less appealing there’s still some work to do.

Puh-leeeeese! I could easily piss into that thing.

My good sir I don’t know if I should praise you precision or deplore your depravity.

What we need is a ‘drinking bidet’ – you know it makes sense.

Such a bulky, ugly and importantly, unsanitary design. I thought the point of modern designs was to make sure the water comes out from a shielded outlet so contaminants can’t just fall down into them. Not sure how having an outlet facing straight up works?

I would suggest that the genius who approved this impractical design perhaps thought it would make an awesome bird bath or it could be used by the mentally insane coz no one in their right mind would go anywhere near it!

Obviously you have never seen a bidet before. Oh wait – it is a drinking fountain. My bad.

Ewwww
It would have to me a very hot day and no other options before I would drink from one of these.

NOPE.jpg.

Would try all the tactics out of Man Vs Wild before drinking from these.

As good as it is to have such services out there… do the people who actually come up with the idea to place them in locations honestly think that they’ll never be pissed on, pooped on or bled on by the disgusting members of society who just do things to be jerks and nothing more?

Why put them out there if you *know* thats what is going to happen? Anyone who thinks that they’re used for their intention is living in a fantasy.

I prefer my water to be without the subtle hint of piss thankyou very much.

Probably why the newer ones look like this.

With that design I’d be more concerned as to what it has been in rather than what fluids have been expelled onto it

Worst. Bidet. Ever.

Did you get any surprised looks as you tried it out?

Given the current water temps. probably had a surprised look as they tried it out.

Worst. Bidet. Ever.

I am curious. Was it because of insufficient water flow, or because the water is cold?

The problem with bubblers in Civic is that no matter how sanitary the design is or how pristine they are when first installed, it will only take a short while before someone literally pisses all over it.

I don’t care how long you let the water run, there’s still a good chance you’re imbibing someones urine when you use one of these (even worse if the water flow is such a sad dribble, that you have to, as JB put it, actually “kiss the steel”.

This ^^^

Has anyone actually used one of these for their intended purpose?

What – pooing on?

I think I made a post on here a number of years ago about the one in Hobart Place.

I was surprised to discover it was a bubbler, however given that it being used by smokers and gum-chewers to dispose of their rubbish, I declined testing the water.

I thought it was for butting out cigarette.
At least that’s what most are being used for.

I am a native of Bundanoon (Worlds first bottled water free town). As part of the project there have been installed some very sanitary bubblers in selected parks, main street and at the school. The nature of the design means they are fairly clean and people are happy to use them.

Ill take some photos and post them here.
