After 37 years, the venerable F-111 “Pig” is being retired from service in December. Today marks the aircraft’s final visit to Canberra, with a flyover marking Vietnam Veterans’ Day.

No idea about the exact time – unfortunately the ADF don’t seem to have put out a media release.

Well that was a little lame. I preferred when the C17 buzzed around us for about 20 minutes. I mean really – if you were the pilot wouldn’t you want to do a dummy bombing run on APH or maybe see if you could kick up a rooster tail on the lake??

After all those softco*ks whinged about the two F-111s that performed a double dump and burn for the Centenary of the High Court a few years back, I’m surprised we get to see this thing at all here nowadays.

Meh! Seen one, seen em’ all.

Happend while I was draining the main vein at about 12:55 here in Civic, thought the toilet was about to back up, scared the life outta me. lol

Well, went down the lake to watch. Very low-key – just a slow, sedate single jet. No afterburner, no rooster-tail on the lake. Out not with a bang but a whimper…

It went past my window in Woden pretty close, was great to see.

I have to agree. Makes me wonder what fun the pilots will have when they know they are on their last flight ever.

About an hour from now. The media release is here: http://www.defence.gov.au/media/AlertTpl.cfm?CurrentId=10706

Four Black Hawk Helicopters will also fly over Canberra between 2pm and 5pm as part of an Army training exercise. AFP training centre at Majura and Symonston.
