A Sydney-based company that provides enterprise-grade software solutions to corporates and the public sector is expanding to Canberra so its specialist engineers can have face-to-face contact with clients on the ground.

Envoy Advanced Technologies managing director James Milson said his company’s growth into Canberra would “amplify Envoy’s presence in the government sector and, to a lesser degree, the large and listed enterprise space”.

“We understand our skills are in key demand in Canberra, and having an office here firmly commits us to the landscape,” he said.

“Most government agencies we wish to work with are represented in Canberra, and we appreciate the need to be known, not by reputation alone, but by actual contact with those we seek to work with.”

With 15 years’ IT experience under his belt, and five with Envoy, head of engineering Peter Sillar has made the move from Sydney to Canberra and will be the face of Envoy in the ACT. Prudence Slaughter also recently joined the Canberra team as head of government services.

Peter said he was looking forward to managing projects for government and defence departments, as well as creating software solutions for Canberra enterprises.

“We’re a team of heavy hitters, a group of problem solvers at heart who like to get our teeth stuck into meaty problems,” he said.

“We’re expert developers and enjoy taking on complex challenges and writing custom software solutions that meet our clients’ needs.”

The Australian software engineers have a proven track record for delivering projects for large companies including Spirit of Tasmania, ABN AMRO, Cochlear, Australian Agricultural Company and UTS College.

Envoy recently designed and executed a bespoke software system for a public-listed Australian company.

“We work closely and collaboratively with our clients which, for me personally, was one of the reasons I chose to work with Envoy,” Peter said.

“I didn’t want to be just a guy sitting in a corner writing code all day. Instead, I’m sitting alongside clients and in regular contact with clients. We’re not afraid to pick up the phone and talk to people – and our clients know they can call us anytime if something goes wrong.

“Successful software projects can only be delivered through this kind of open collaboration.”

He said the “small, agile team” could form strong relationships and offer value for money for government and business clients “without the bloat of larger organisations”.

“We pride ourselves on delivering high-quality solutions to complex challenges and take the time to thoroughly understand each individual business. We work in a collaborative, transparent manner to create a product that provides long-term value for them.”

James said Envoy had often been described by his customers as representing the “top 1 per cent of IT professionals in Australia”.

“We believe in doing it right the first time, every time and have rigorous practices in place to ensure it,” he added.

He said the IT industry was moving quickly, and Envoy experts were “consistently challenging ourselves to find smarter, simpler, more effective and efficient ways of doing things for ourselves and our customers”.

“Post COVID, the economy is experiencing increased demand for Envoy’s capabilities, not only as a prestige software development company but also as a trusted source of technical advice for the government,” James said.

“Unlike the fintech-dominated Sydney scene, Canberra suits our style of business operations with new relationships and business opportunities on the horizon.”

Envoy provides end-to-end software design and engineering solutions for businesses and projects of all sizes, including web applications, enterprise software, fully managed web hosting, mobile App development and IT consulting.

All projects are designed, created and managed in-house by Australians – there’s no outsourcing to overseas companies.

Peter said Envoy was proud to “bridge the gap between development and production”.

“No excuses, just working software and great people,” he concluded.

Envoy Advanced Technologies warrants its developed software is defect-free, and offers fixed price engagements with a firm commitment to delivery dates, direct access to its project tracking software as well as ongoing support.
