The Australian Christian Lobby has a new Territory Director here in Canberra called Richard Thackway and he’s written to his members letting them know the fundie goodness they’ve got planned for the election.
First order of business is a bit of what seems certain to be sex industry bashing:
Ms Vickie Dunne, MLA will be invited to canvas the policy positions of the ACT Liberal Party on ACT brothels (Attorney-General Simon Corbell was invited but declined to attend). Prostitution and its impact on those caught in the trade is an important issue for many Christians in the ACT. The community will have the opportunity to ask questions of Ms Dunn. The forum is planned for mid-September
Now the local sex industry has not covered itself in glory, but it would be nice to see a proper compliance regime brought in (with a few exemplary executions) rather than driving the industry back underground.
On another note it is frankly bizarre that the only religion based on a man known to have associated with prostitutes is so down on it.
