A Canberra man has had an enormous shock after winning $2.5 million on the first Lotto ticket he’s ever bought.

The ACT resident held one of the four division one winning entries in Saturday’s (18 May) draw.

A man described the moment he realised he’d won as “one of the best days of my life”.

“I just bought this ticket on the spur of the moment. I’ve never bought a lottery ticket before,” he said.

“On Sunday morning, I woke up and saw this ticket in my wallet, so I thought I’d check it.

“Oh sh-t! I can’t explain the moment. I just can’t believe it.”

He had bought his winning entry from Metro Mitchell on Callan Street.

The man said his “first priority” was to buy a house.

“I’m going to start searching for my first house now,” he said.

Two of the other division one winners were in Western Australia, and a third in Victoria.
