Tomorrow’s big friendly match between Canberra FC and Western Sydney Wanderers at Deakin Stadium will take on extra importance for two local Canberra players who have been drafted into the Hyundai A-League squad for the prestigious pre-season clash.

Midfielder Tom Milicevic and Central Defender Ross Costanzo have been included in the Wanderers squad with the aim to give them a chance to show their quality with the chance of a Foxtel National Youth League contract the ultimate aim.

The inclusion of the duo in the Wanderers set-up brings the number of Senior NTC graduates participating in the match to seven with Anthony Giorgi, Alex Tilley, Niko Kresic, Daniel Subasic and Joshua Gulevski all announced in the Canberra FC match-day squad. It’s a remarkable success story for the Senior NTC whose current crop sit top of the National Premier Leagues: Capital Football under-20 competition.

“It’s fantastic for the young lads who have been called up by the Wanderers and gives them a wonderful opportunity to show their talent in what should be a good match,” Capital Football Technical Director Warren Grieve, heavily involved in the Senior NTC program, said. “These players have outstanding qualities and I am sure they will take the chance presented to them. With Canberra FC already giving first team opportunities to a number of ex-Senior NTC players, it should make for a fascinating evening.”

Striker Jordan Tsekenis was originally offered the chance to be a part of the match but the prolific forward appears to have done enough during a stint with Sydney FC to preclude his inclusion. The talented young striker has been on trial the past three weeks at the Hyundai A-League club impressing the Sky Blues coaching staff with his pace, movement and eye for goal and is closing in on a coveted Foxtel National Youth League contract.
