Man charged after aggravated break and enters in Snowy Mountains

A man will face court this morning following an aggravated break and enter at East Jindabyne yesterday morning (August 23).

About 7 am (August 23), the occupants of a unit in Kumama Drive were awoken after hearing a noise in another room and contacted police.

Police allege, when they arrived they found a man armed with a knife and a pair of scissors.

Officers attempted to negotiate with the man; however, he smashed a glass window and ran into a nearby yard.

Police chased the 25-year-old Woonona man and he was arrested after a short struggle. It is alleged he was in possession of a cash box containing money, which was seized by police.

The man was taken to Jindabyne Police Station and charged with aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence (x2), use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, armed with intent to commit indictable offence, and resist police.

The man was also charged in relation at an alleged aggravated break and enter at a motel on Kosciuszko Road on Thursday (August 22).

He was refused bail and is expected to appear in Queanbeyan Bail Court today (August 24).
