Man charged with murder after Civic incident

ACT Policing has charged a 19-year-old man from Greenleigh in NSW with murder following an incident in the City on Saturday morning.

At about 9:45 am yesterday (4 December), police were called to assist a man who had collapsed in Garema Place. Despite the first-aid efforts of members of the public, police and ACT Ambulance Service officers, the 29-year-old man died at the scene.

Information from witnesses and CCTV footage indicated that the deceased man was involved in an altercation before he collapsed.

At about 10:30 am, a 19-year-old man believed to be associated with the altercation was identified and located in City Walk. According to police, he ran from the location and a short foot pursuit occurred before he was arrested in Ainslie Avenue.

Late yesterday the 19-year-old was charged with one count of murder. He is scheduled to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court tomorrow (6 December).
