Picture this: struck more sweetly than ever before, your golf ball soars through the crisp spring air before landing on the green and rolling in for a hole in one.

Suddenly you are the owner of a new Lexus worth $62,500.

A long shot admittedly, but the Lexus is on offer at this year’s McIntyre Property golf day for Ronald McDonald Charities.

On Monday, March 25 2019, the event begins at Royal Canberra Golf Club, Yarralumla, with breakfast and registration at 10 am. Tee off is at 11 am.

Since 2012, seriously ill children and their families have received almost $200,000 from the McIntyre Property charity golf days and trivia nights.

McIntyre Property principal Col McIntyre began the golf day in 2012 to support Camp Quality.

“Being a business in the community it was time to give something back to the community, and choose a worthwhile charity,” Col says.

More recently he has switched his charity to Ronald McDonald House. His four-year-old niece Zeeba, who has a heart condition, and her family who live in Darwin, stay at Ronald McDonald House near Westmead Hospital in Sydney. Ronald McDonald Houses are attached to major women’s or children’s hospitals and provide a home away from home for seriously ill children and their families.

The annual golf day is being held later than previous years in the hope for better weather (and a clearer shot at that hole in one!).

“Hopefully we will get a good amount of teams and raise some good money,” Col says.

“I have a loyal following who turn up each year and they have created friendships and a little competition among one another. It is like a businesses houses event in the country where they all play on a Wednesday afternoon and get to know one another,” he says.

“In this scenario, we are in a bigger city, but there is a group of business houses that support me and my cause, and camaraderie has developed through that – it creates that bit of fun.”

Openings are still available for players. Contact Col on 0417 263 678 if you would like to participate.

Sponsors API Asset Property Inspections, realestate.com.au, Canberra Lexus, Stihl, Kahma Golf, Teed Up Exclusive Tours and Drummond Golf take the pressure off costs and allow more money to go to charity.

As well as the charity golf day, McIntyre Property is prominent in sponsoring schools in Tuggeranong and Belconnen and numerous sporting clubs.

“If you earn from the community it is your responsibility to give back to that community who supports you, after all, Canberra is a big country town in my opinion,” Col says. “I approach my business in that regard.”

In its 11th year, McIntyre Property has delivered many highlights for Col, including real estate agent of the year. He says the growth of his staff and the awards recognising their achievements have been the most satisfying aspect of his real estate career.

“That is special to me, the way we keep growing each year,” he says.

“I was given some advice from my father (Kevin) when I got into real estate: ‘just tell the truth and do the right thing’ and we have done that, and it is hard not to grow if you are doing those things correctly,” he says.
