Meet Canberra Author Troy Simpson

Troy Simpson 7 November 2010 5

On 11 December 2010, from 11.00am to 1.00pm, you will have the chance to meet and greet local Canberra author Troy Simpson.

Troy will be at Borders Books in the Canberra Centre to answer your questions and sign your copy of the popular new book Funny English Errors and Insights: Illustrated, which was launched last week by the Minister for Education and Training Andrew Barr.

Funny English is a new book of unconscious humour, comprising 301 accidentally humorous uses and misuses of written English, including some hilarious student bloopers.

Already, thanks in no small way to the support of local Canberrans, Funny English has proved very popular, attracting more than 55,000 Facebook Fans.

As a small token of his appreciation, Troy has organised a giveaway that offers you the chance to win more than $600 in prizes, including a new digital camera, printer, and stationery pack. To enter, you must use the official entry forms that will be available for the two hours on 11 Dec at Borders in the Canberra Centre when you purchase a copy of the book.

Troy thanks you for your continued support and looks forward to meeting you in person on 11 Dec.

@I-filed: I get it now. You’re referring to The Simpson’s episode mentioning Jebediah Springfield’s “embiggening” the smallest man, which I gather Andrew Barr must have mentioned somewhere. That’s okay then. As a politician, Andrew’s fair game. I thought for a minute you were having a go at little old me 😉

Troy Simpson…speaking in third person…win!

Well, if I don’t speak about myself, no-one else will 🙂

But I do always publish under my own name, as you can see from my original post.

@I-filed: Are you having a go at Andrew Barr’s take on Walter Burley Griffin? And, pardon my ignorance, but what is “a mini Jebediah fogey of language expression”?

Andrew Barr launched the book because he is the Minister for Education; the book is mostly a book of student bloopers.

@Jamie: thanks for your support!

Highlighting misuse of English in modern times? Hang on, Andrew Barr – Aren’t Shakespeare, Fowler and Johnson LONG DEAD? Why did you launch what is basically (according to your take on history and values when it comes to the future for our beloved city) a mini Jebediah fogey of language expression? Tempting to (only half jokingly) drop the H word!

Huh?

I’ve read this book and it’s a good read. Well done to Troy Simpson. It’s sure not every day you get a local Canberra author producing such a gem.
