Menopausal women helped by Jacqui Burke

Last night Liberal MLA Jacqui Burke hosted a meeting (possibly all night if the first sentence of the release is to be believed) to discuss what can be done about menopause.

The conclusion was that a self-help group should be set up next year to both distribute information and act as a networking group for women “to meet and encourage and support each other through the often difficult stages of menopause”.

Mrs Burke said such a group could work with the ACT’s Family Planning Association, although I was not certain how.

She said many women had expressed the feelings of social isolation that apparently come with menopause (I am quite some way off from this stage of life myself, so I’ll take Mrs Burke’s word for it). This is why the emphasis of any self-help group formed would be on networking and being sociable.
