Meteor shower Dunlop?

By sandcaw - 23 March 2012 6

I was out on my walk this evening, around the pond at Dunlop.

Looking across to the NSW border, in the direction of Wallaroo Road, I happened to see, although it was brief, a beautiful meteor shower.

It lasted a couple of seconds, came down through the cloud before disappearing.

I didn’t have a migraine, so no flashing lights there.

I haven’t been on the gin either so can’t blame it on that. It is Friday evening and it was 7.15pm.

Please did anyone else see it?

What’s Your opinion?

pedantic i know, but that’s not a meteor shower. If it was lots in a few seconds it’s a bunch of fragments from a meteor or meteor train.

A true meteor shower lasts for hours or days, with separate meteors visible every few minutes not so much a shower like raindrops…

Sigh……….

The chances of anything coming from Mars are a million to one, he said.

@sandcaw I saw it too… I was setting up to take some photos down at Orroral Valley:

luckily I was looking to the north/north west when I saw some ‘flashes’ come down at incredible speed (when compared to usually seeing aircraft poodle around the sky). I wish I had managed to get a shot but I was cowering from a passing rain shower at the time. 🙂

” … and the Colorado, Rocky Mountain High
I’ve seen it raining fire in the sky
Friends around the campfire and everybody’s high
Rocky Mountain High … “

Yep, I saw a large Meteor too. I would have seen it for a few seconds before it disappeared behind the roofline of the house

I was in Ainslie, facing West, and somewhat still light, so not sure that it was the same one you saw. It was incredibly bright and burned Green (yay Copper)

Even more impressive is the smoke trail it left. I’ve never seen that before
