Michael Buble Gig Review

Well being the Bublé fan that I am, I had been eagerly awaiting Wednesday night (28th May) for some 3 months prior.
Let me tell you that subjective as I am Bublé did not disappoint.

One of the more touching moments of the night was when he saw a 9 year old fan in the crowd, and singled her out. He had a chat with her, dedicated a song to her and had his photo taken with her… What a great guy.

Not only can he sing as well as he does in the studio, he also sung a vers of his song without amplification or instrumentation, demonstrating to me just how good a singer he is.

I found the gig to not only be musically entertaining, but good for a laugh as well, with Michael making a few jokes between songs.

My high point for the night was his rendition of an Elvis song “Cant Help Falling In Love”, with the house lights fully dimmed and one single spot on Bublé, Holding Mrs Danman in my arms, my spine was shivering with awe, it was almost like I was a young girl at an Elvis gig (Funny though that a bloke-ish 30 something male would admit to that).

Bublé is truly an artist – whether it be his own material or his own renditions…Mrs Danman loved it just as much as me.

Despite the negative press I heard, you just cant keep everyone happy, but I thoroughly enjoyed myself and will be back given the opportunity.

Bublé has surely cemented his place in my playlist circulation in the falcodore.

I have included some photographs of the night. Keeping in mind we were right at the back/middle of the house we had a good view but were some distance. The sharpness of these photographs reflect this. For the tech heads, they were taken on a D70 focussed at max on a 300mm zoom, f5.6 with shutter between 1/60 and 1/160 from about 150m away.

Enjoy, critique welcome as always

No probs man – just thought I’d respond now as I very, very rarely check the spam-trap email…

Deadmandrinking5:17 pm 02 Jun 08

Oh yeah, it’s a good monitor, thanks for that man.

DMD – the difference seems to be ‘tongue in cheek’ versus outright antagonism. I know which category tap falls into.

And agreed about the ‘flap flap flap’ nonsense. Probably best to just ignore it and move on.

PS – glad the monitor is working for you.

As i will never enjoy listening to Demos Rusos, or Engelbert Humperdink, but they still have fans and tons of talent – just not my flavour of talent

Deadmandrinking2:28 pm 02 Jun 08

That looks very good. I’m still not going to be liking Michael Buble though, lol

Yeah duly noted thumper, just got going at about 0830 decided against run and done core body circuit instead. 6 stations, 15 reps – 6 sets… Takes about 35 to 40 minutes but it shags ya. Had to put my free weights in the sun so I could hold them – they were icy cold.

Deadmandrinking12:51 am 31 May 08

I love you to man!

*sob*

… I love you guys :p

Deadmandrinking12:07 am 31 May 08

I’m going to get on it soon, I promise.

In closing, I hope we all learned something with this thread today. Sometimes, it’s difficult to differentiate between insult, joke and even just passionate argument online. We all have differing opinions on here and being able to express them and debate them is a blessing. I’m not going to be a hypocrite here – I’m just as bad as the worst on this. In future, I will try to be less personal and more on subject (except for ‘flap flap flap’ – that’s just plain annoying!).

this time im really off.. these RA late night threads seem to be my demise.. Was going for a run tomorrow morning, probably just sloth around until 10ish now…

dmd, beer is best kept in your stomach, not the fridge, get to work son

i indulge tap often…

Damn email alerts kept gettin me out of bed… email is off, im outta here and raiders are pathetic..Losers on home turf bah… No wonder I prefer union, but brumbies aint much good either, unless you like unsliced 10 grain loaves.

So … Danman. I would presume that you are “off tap” then ??

says who ? 😛

Deadmandrinking11:44 pm 30 May 08

😛 is so goddamn handy. I used to hate emoticons and lols but now I realize they can be the deciding point between jokes and fights…mostly.

Deadmandrinking said :

Caught you Spidey 😛

Sorry, that was the only insult I could really make out of your name. I won’t use it in a serious argument I promise.

Damman, I have some beers in the fridge I’m sure. They’re always there, lol.

Thats alright, I could tell you weren’t being serious by the little 😛 symbol ROFLMAO

Deadmandrinking11:38 pm 30 May 08

Danman that is.

Danman said :

dmd, hombrew on TAP at mine…. no thats not a reference to our indefatigable friend here, I really do have homebrew in kegs with hoses and triggers, i.e. on tap 🙂

Actually make that one beer left ??

Deadmandrinking11:37 pm 30 May 08

Caught you Spidey 😛

Sorry, that was the only insult I could really make out of your name. I won’t use it in a serious argument I promise.

Damman, I have some beers in the fridge I’m sure. They’re always there, lol.

Where? I’ve only got a couple beers left …… 😛

danman: I just didn’t realise you were so fragile. Im sorry.

dmd, hombrew on TAP at mine…. no thats not a reference to our indefatigable friend here, I really do have homebrew in kegs with hoses and triggers, i.e. on tap 🙂

My bad, didn’t get the meaning of “Spider Rock”…yes not a laughing matter, I will agree. I may be weird, but definitely not sick. lol

Wow it took 40 bazillion posts for you to reel it back in eh ?
Good work champ…

do you think getting into a fight over buble is really worth it? I’ve toyed with the idea of saying ‘meet me out the front of the PCYC tonight at 3:00 and see if you actually go out there, cause that would be hilarious, but I wont.

Ill say it again…… Straight cut and paste…. Enjoy…Hope you can decipher it.

Mark my words when I say I do not want to fight anyone, I just want bowls of jelly to grow backbones and insult me to my face… Sure if they slap me around a bit ill retort but its not what I am about…..

I am just interested in seeing if you would say the same things when I am there in front of you.. Im a lover not a fighter… But I have self respect and pride too… I don’t push but if push comes to shove I push back….

This has nothing to do with Buble, it has everything to do with you not liking something I do and trying to make me feel inferior for being individual…. Live and let live…

As for anything else, pretty tired of taps witty repartee so ill let him bask in the warmth of his own inner glow for winning more friends on RA and say goodnight to the rest y’all.

Deadmandrinking11:25 pm 30 May 08

If you’re calling yourself a rock-spider, I’d be worried, mate, lol. 😛

No one has called me something that I haven’t called myself yet and laughed. So anyone can call me anything because I’ve laughed already 😛

Wow is that just me, or did that sound really wierd ??

Deadmandrinking11:16 pm 30 May 08

Bugger, grog shop’s shut.

Deadmandrinking11:06 pm 30 May 08

That’s better spidey-dog. My handle is kind of paying myself and my drinking habits out, so I’ve already covered that ground.

Sure yours shouldn’t be spidey-rock? 😛

Deadmandrinking11:04 pm 30 May 08

Just wait till about 3am on most Friday nights (bar this one, as I’m a little sick…although I may still nip out the back for a beer…maybe), I’ll probably hit myself in the face before I hit you. I’m no fighter either, but when you’re tall, you’ll get picked.

On the whole meeting up off Riot-Act to say things to people’s face, there are people on here who I argue with that I really don’t want to meet in person, not for any fear of physical assault, but because I would find it kind of weird and I’m not sure their company would be that enjoyable for me and vice-versa.

The songs not bad at all, man. It’s not what I’d listen to out of choice, but it’s not offensive to my ear and brings back memories of classic blues-rock. You’re better than Michael Buble!

Danman: What I said was a joke. I apologise for you not being able to understand that. I overestimated your ability to handle a good humoured jab, and your ability to understand emoticons. I will not overestimate you again. Question though, (sorry it’s a question, i know these tools of language are frowned on in these here parts) do you think getting into a fight over buble is really worth it? I’ve toyed with the idea of saying ‘meet me out the front of the PCYC tonight at 3:00 and see if you actually go out there, cause that would be hilarious, but I wont. No im not going to fight you. You’re way too tough and scary, I can tell by the way you are totally unafraid sitting behind your computer (do you see how you banging on about wanting me to say ‘buble sucks’ to your face is doing exactly what you are complaining about, acting hard on the internet and all?). Besides, fighting doesn’t prove a point right or wrong, but it would prove that we are massively lame for getting so into an argument about the boob that we feel the need to fight. Im just not that lame. besides, if you are too grown up to see the humour in ‘the boob’, shouldn’t you also be over trying to fight people who think buble is a flaming ball of crap?

Thumper: Im sorry I use questions as a way of making my point through getting people to think and actually try to answer questions that are neccessary to their ideas. Clearly I have overestimated a lot of contributors ability to think. Eg whats the difference between saying ‘If homosexuality is a choice, why is there such a thing as closeted homosexuals? Wouldn’t they just choose to be straight and that would be that?’ and saying ‘homosexuality is not a choice because if it was closeted homosexuals, who for one reason or another feel the need to hide their sexuality, would just choose to be heterosexual and that would entirely fix their problem.’ – to me the difference is with the question it is possible that the person reading might think about the issue more if its posed as a question. Plus im mighty interested in how a person who thinks homosexuality is a choice could answer that. But oh well, you can lead a horse to water.

You must learn to laugh at ones self before laughing at others….. 😛

How’s that DMD ?

Mark my words when I say I do not want to fight anyone, I just want bowls of jelly to grow backbones and insult me to my face… Sure if they slap me around abit ill retort but its not what I am about…..

I think I once offered a free beer to someone who had a disagreement with me, a free beer and a chat dammit… They still stood me up.

Mr Mael did not, (He was just there for the free beer !!) but due to anonymity issues and miscommunication, we were like 2 ships passing in the night… sounds kind of romantic eh… Get that inter ya Mrs Danman 🙂 yer hubbys gay i say… GAY…..

Seriously though, ya gotta take the piss out of yourself before anyone else eh ?

I like buble, if you dont, top darts to that… Slap yourself on the back for being so great and get on with life….

Deadmandrinking10:18 pm 30 May 08

Look, if you can manage to get it into Grayscale (this is the bit where I confess I’m not a big media geek and only understood about half of that – I just like seeing good photos, lol), it’d be interesting to see how it turned out. The lighting is just right for a good b/w I think.

With Tap, I think he was just being reactive to your reaction to what you thought was an insult. Usually, 😛 tends to mean something in jest, if I understand this internet machine correctly.

Deadmandrinking10:13 pm 30 May 08

I don’t like Glenn Miller. Want a fight?

What do you mean if it makes me feel any better?
This is the internet, it does not determine my emotional status.

When I walk away, its not my concern…

DMD, Tap tries to insult me by insulting what I like. I came to my own defence as would any normal person. I took the bait ok… I saw the error and have stepped aside to let him spew forth his unending diatribe of how everyone should be in another ruined thread.

Really… calling a musician I like a (or the) Boob… seriously… is this grade 3 or what ?

I have told him that if he wishes to say any more to me, I am happy to organise a meeting place and time…so he can tell me what he thinks without the big man status of a firewall and ISP to protect him. I am pretty weedy and if you read above I am a self confessed geek whose spine tingles when watching Bublé live with his woman in his arms so draw what stereotypes from that that you want. So far no go from tap. I guess the whole anonymity of the internet is working for him, thats cool, I can not guarantee I will like everyone I come across, Im pretty tolerant but hey, Ke sera sera or whatever.

Anyhow….(Big Sigh)

To get on to matters of a more worthwhile nature..Greyscale.. Umm no – have not had a go yet…I only just converted them from RAW before I posted them, My machine being a beastly non mac, it hates anything it has to do with multimedia applications, and surprisingly (The amount of posts that I do here you would not think so but…)I do have some downtime from internet where I work, and do things a family guy like me enjoys….Given though high ISO pictures do lend themselves to greyscale quite well with the noise giving it an almost (but not quite as good) analogue film grain kind of feeling. I did have it in mind but have not yet done it.

If I had a 300mm zoom for my film camera I would have taken that for sure – with a roll of B+W 3200…run the negs through the chems myself then make my own prints if film talk makes any sense to anyone any more

If you wish to see the results…drop me a line in this thread, but can not make any promises.

Deadmandrinking10:07 pm 30 May 08

😛 is usually used in a ‘silly’ tone. That’s why I said ‘don’t you know the internet?’

That looks like to me, that danman was defending himself.. If tap was indeed just making a silly comment in jest, maybe he should come out and cliarify himself.

Me, myself, if I had made a “silly” remark made in jest and I observed it was taken incorrectly, I would clarify it straight away instead of going on to make more insulting remarks. Those kind of replies suggest to me that the original remark was not made in jest and was made to either insult or “bait” the author.

Deadmandrinking9:45 pm 30 May 08

In tap’s defense, I think Danman was the first one to start hurling insults.

Tap, sit on yer head fool.

If you can’t read properly, I said fairly plainly, I’m no Buble fan. My point is, you are free to not like or even appreciate Mr Buble like Danman. You are free to express that you don’t like him too for all I care, but it is a little childish to throw insults at someone and try to make them feel “less of a man” because they like something you don’t.

grow up.

Deadmandrinking9:35 pm 30 May 08

If it makes you feel any better, Danman, the second photo down was very very good. How does it look in grayscale?

Deadmandrinking9:32 pm 30 May 08

Oh shush Spidey-dog, you post something about Michael Buble, don’t expect everyone to fall to their knees and start booby-worshiping.

I would expect some detractors if I were to post something about my favorite musicians.

No, he was baiting and being a tool. Different to mucking around.

Deadmandrinking9:20 pm 30 May 08

He did a smart-ass tongue thing. It was a joke. Don’t you know the internet?

Lighten up, Danman. 😛

(Michael Buble pfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffttttttttttttttttttttahahahahaaaaaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaehhh eh)

I’d do him 😉

Hey hey! when have I said that he isn’t welcome to the boob?! dont try and tell me that i want to keep danman from his precious buble, cause I didn’t and never would. Danmans love for the boob is truly a inpirational thing. Its made me feel again!

This could have all ended as a simple innofensive one liner, but danman got a little too upset that someone dislikes the crooning crud the is buble.

And danman, you’re right, ill leave you and buble alone now. Wipe away those tears big fella, he understands.

Me, I’m a metal/grunge/Alt style fella, but have also been known to like the softer stuff from time to time. I am a self proclaimed musician and love music (as long as it isn’t artificial, using real instruments).

I’m not a fan of Buble, but are open enough to accept that other people have different opinons/likes/hates.

Good for you Danman. Go eat s&^%t tap

Past your bedtime innit?

You really are going to croon at me.

The horror, the horror!

Im sure the boob is really appreciating you defending his honour. lol.

blah dee blah blah

Reminds me of some old cold chisel lyrics, replace Ita with Tap and you get the following

c’mon everyone, all together now!

Every night when I get home
I settle down to prime time limbo
When all the boys are gathered around
Shouting Tap’a on TV
And though the roaches are thick on the ground
Somebody goes to close my window
Keep the noise of the city down
Get a dose of integrity

Every week, in every home
She got wholesome news for the family
I believe, I believe, in what she says
Yes I do
I believe, I believe, at the end of the day
Her magazine’ll get me through

Tap’s tongue never touches her lips
She could always be my godmother
And though the desk-top hides her hips
My imagination’s strong
She’s the sweetest thing I’ve ever seen
I’d like to take her out to dinner
But when I think about the places I’ve been
I’d probably hold my fork all wrong

Every day and every night
She’s the only one we can depend upon
I believe, I believe, in what she says
Yes I do
I believe, I believe, at the end of the day
Her magazine’ll get me through

To every housewife through the land
There is no-one else they can depend upon
How could I not believe, when Tap tells me too

Danman, like i keep saying, you’re more than welcome to the boob. enjoy. And this is an issue where reason doesn’t play a part in an opinion, people you like the boob. Good for you. I just find it hilarious.

Its too funny! ‘you insulted the boob, i will show you who’s man! Buble fan style!’ You’re going to croon at me until i beg forgiveness aren’t you?

tap – neck up you parrot – either that or be man enough to say it to my face…Your opinions arent mine, how many threads does it take for you to get that through your think skull..

Your telling me buble targets a demographic, well cut my legs off and call me shorty. I was at the gig mate, I saw the 10 to 1 ratio of +40 year old women to men who were dragged along by their wives.

Unlike you tap – Im not afraid to show my real colours to strangers. Ther will always be one retard who tries to cut me down for being open an expressing my opinion. I guess thats you…

Wanna say anything to me, keep if for when your looking at me…happy to meet you anywhere at a time that suits us both.

If you have anything other than a time to meet and greet to say to me then stfu

Maelinar: You should, you’ll love buble.

Here we go again !

pow pow pow, /missile lock on/ pow pow kaziing

flap flap flap.

Danman, you should know better than to feed the trolls. BTW, I’ll listen to buble if your cooking – I am man enough to share eggs benedict recipes.

me – salmon only, I might throw in a smashed caper just to add the zing, and can get zealous on the cracked pepper. I picked up the whirlpool trick off the cook and the chef for that tornado effect, still only getting about 80% success though since I’m still practicing it. Served on toasted muffin or turkish bread.

Sorry Danman, I should leave you alone to enjoy such crap music, better you than me. All I was saying is that middle aged women are his target audience. You know how sometimes even in a genre you wouldn’t otherwise listen to, their is a band that is so good they trancend their genre and you cant help but love it? The boob is the opposite. Absolutely terrible, honestly.

I wonder what Matty would think, being compared to the boob and all. Eh… he might like it, kind of doubt it…

But yeah, enjoy, the boob is a source of happiness you have that I will never have. Ofcourse I have the happiness that comes from the laughter after reading about soul moving music from a fan of the Boob.

Please dont set your biker and your ‘heavy metal’ mates onto me. lol. fool.

Has Frank Bennet released anything since Five O’clock Shadow? Must check if my copy is still around.

his buble has burst.

I like crooner music. The Boob and Harry C Jr are amongst the better artisans of the genre, I had high hopes for Jamie Cullum but his second album was just woeful.

Meanwhile, I know that in about six month’s time I’ll be cleaning up my desktop and wondering why there’s a folder with no icon and a non-breaking space for a name with two empty text files in it. :/ (nbsp is Alt+0160 on an XP system, by the way).

tap – don’t you have some place else to be?

Kangaroo thread die ?

You trying to associate me with kath and kim is pretty tentative…and amusing to boot. By your rationale, your as much them as me, because they breathe just like you…fool…

Better watch out, I like AC/DC Ill get all my biker mates on to you now.

next…

Not quite as good as his scam that gets people to go to said concerts in the first place.

Danman: You are a fan of the Boob. Each to their own of course, but damn, thats some extremely lame music. Fool.

Don’t fret though, the mother out of Kath and Kim is a fan too.

Not picky, Like I said, I like what I like because I like it, not because its cool.

Tap, sit on yer head fool.

If you want to be picky, I have at various points been asked (by aunts and an ex-gf) to listen to the Boob, but have difficulty getting past the first few tracks on any CD, so he wont ‘grow’ on me, and the fact the Woden music shop play him on high-rotation doesn’t help his case.

@papdoc:
there’s a “Whats On This Weekend” thread every friday afternoon…
You’ll catch the regulars there, and people who might attend or be interested but wouldn’t normally view a Michael Buble thread.

I suspected it was true, and now I know. People do actually like the boob. Sad day. :p

See thats the spirit….

Guess you dont like Richard Cheese or an fellow Aussie Frank Bennett either.

I used to be a heavy metal puritan as well, but I learnt that through my own exclusion there was a lot I was missing out on 🙂 not only heavy metal, but more contemporary stuff too, jeff buckley, simon and garfunkel, CCR, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Depeche Mode, I think thats a mention from most of my genres….. anyway…..I like what I like because I like it, not because its cool to like it.

My mother and aunt are quite fond of Bublé, but only Frank Sinatra can sit in my mp3 player, the Boob and his friend Connick Jr are merely impersonators.
But as a review of something I wasn’t there for, and don’t have much of an interest in, it was a reasonable article.

I think I may be the only one who is actually on topic, but am arguing so just seem like this thread’s token troll.
I can go back to discussing the impact of the ^ on language, if you prefer…

PS: Sell edited ones to Cleo and the originals to DNA and you’ll make millions.

You guys should come check out Blacklist @ the Greenroom on Saturday night. They’re now headlining over local favourites Tonk and have had an awesome review on this site a while back.

$10 is all you need for Penguin, Tonk & Blacklist

Saturday 31st, Greenroom Phillip.

Skid, one day you will know what its like to feel more than just yourself.

Just because I was in awe of a mans performance does not mean I barred up or want to get in his pants. Sometimes I hear music and tears come to my eyes, sheer talent is an amazing thing, and it effects and moves people on an individual and wholly different level. When I saw Ellis Collective, I spent the whole gig with a clentched jaw, trying to keep myself together, music moves me rigth down to my soul….To some people, its just music, but its more for me, I cant explai it and you will never understand it.

Mate, I almost cried with awe at fear factory and faith no more (Last century mind you). As a musician myself, there is nothing more satisfying than seeing music produced live. I have a deeply instilled appreciation of the talent involved in producing live music. Anything can and often does go wrong, but to see flawless renditions of songs live is truly awe inspiring, and has had me close to tears often…

I dont give a flying fook what people think of me, I have never really been someone to hide behind some kind of facade….so feel free to pay me out skid…I know what I am, and the opinions of strangers who obviously have a chip on their shoulder means nought to me.

Besides, I would sleep with Buble for a few hundred g’s… Imaginehow much I could sell the photos to Who Weekly for 🙂

Its a small inconvinience for a long term investment.

I don’t care if you’re friends of the Boob or not, just that the girl possibly was, and would so meet the definition of “shill” if it were the case.

Also, neat photos, fine review, pity it was instantly derailed on comments. 4stars.

3 things about Mrs Danman

1) She’s a nurse
2) We share a pr0n directory
3) She is an avid reader/non contributer to RA

next…

Danman, you just posted where the missus can find your stash of Hot Hamalayan Hos, in the same thread as you talk about holding her and having a man make your spine quiver with excitement at the same time…

She doesn’t read the site by any chance, does she?

Nice to see skid is living up to his serial RA troll status…. congrats mate…

Maybe he (Bublé with an é just to annoy skid) is genuinely nice, maybe not, only those who really know him will know that.

I was there as a customer, not a friend or close relative and to that end I left satisfied. I paid, I was happy with what I got for my money. Here endeth the argument.

Bacfk to geekiness, is there shortcut to make the cursor jump from word to word in a sentence?

In Windows:
Hold down Ctrl, then press left or right arrows.

To select entire words, hold down Shift at the same time..

Title has Buble not Bublé.
Sideout next to the final photo has buble (no capital, no é).

The acute vs grave was just for everyone else who derailed a concert story into about symbols.

Grifter: Man engaging you in a confidence scheme.
Shill: The friend or colleague in a crowd or audience. Along the lines of magicians and their mysterious ability to single out people to come and inspect their devices for a stage illusion, or the crowd plant for buying fraudulent goods or services.
Mark: The person being conned.

Robbie Williams apparently has this amazing trick where he’s able to have the same conversations with the same female member of staff in the crowd every time he’s playing in a country.

Nice review and pics!

Bacfk to geekiness, is there shortcut to make the cursor jump from word to word in a sentence?

not sure if I understand you sport..

At the end of teh day it was our hard earned paying our way in and we got value for our $$’s so thats all that matters to me.

Not here for mass appeal, just sharing my satisfaction of the concert.

é is an acute “sharp” or “high” accent, è is a grave “soft” or “low” one.
As in crème brûlée.

So your title and sideout need fixing, unless he’s actually to be pronounced Michael Bubbly.

One of the more touching moments of the night was when he saw a 9 year old fan in the crowd, and singled her out. He had a chat with her, dedicated a song to her and had his photo taken with her… What a great guy.

He’s the grifter, she’s the shill, and you’re the mark.

Thanks for sharing the pics ! He entertains with a skill from a bygone age.

People using a proper computer can get the accent by the following: option-e + e = é

ctrl-c + ctrl-v

é

Loquaciousness10:21 am 30 May 08

Or call up the character map and copy and paste (it’s easier to remember).

alt+0233

é

er, how do you get that little mark to appear above the “e”? I’ve always wondered how people do that.
