Minimal risk at Cooleman Court

johnboy 16 April 2009 6

The Canberra Times has a bit on the trouble at Cooleman Court where asbestos has been found in the aircon and shops have had to close:

Four Cooleman Court shops are gradually reopening after an asbestos scare late last week.

The shops were closed on Thursday when asbestos-related material found in an air-conditioning duct months ago had potentially been disturbed in the recent refurbishments and was possibly blowing into the outlets.

A spokeswoman for the centre’s owners, Mirvac Real Estate Investment Trust, had said there was minimal risk to the public. But the air-handling unit was shut down, all air registers serviced by the duct were sealed and the shops were closed while the area was decontaminated and tested.

Minimal risk eh?

I can see a few workers comp claims coming – might not be much of a risk for the public going in there for a short time, but the workers were there for hours.

I am amazed they didn’t take more care in the renovations (actually I shouldn’t be surprised!) of course there was asbestos materials in the building!

I dont think one or 2 more visits will give you any grief if you have been shopping ther efor a while anyway.

Might steer clear of Hagi Baba for a tad longer…

It would be a good idea to steer clear of that place permanently.

If you hadn’t read about this earlier it would have looked pretty weird to go shopping on the weekend and see the front four shops wrapped in black plastic. Might steer clear of Hagi Baba for a tad longer…
