Territory And Municipal Services have provided an update to their work cleaning up the Molonglo Reach water ski area.
To maintain public safety the Molonglo Reach Water Ski Area will remain closed for the remainder of the water ski season which will end in April. The removal of submerged debris, which remains from last year’s heavy storms, will take place throughout the winter months, Jane Carder, Manager, Place Management, Department of Territory and Municipal Services said today.
“Several hundred tonnes of timber debris have already been removed this year from Molonglo Reach following these heavy storms,” Ms Carder said.
“The area in front of and downstream from the Canoe Club, which is dedicated to non motorised boat use, has been cleared of debris and was re-opened for community use on 18 January.
“However the upstream Reach area, which is designated for high-speed watercraft activities such as water skiing, wakeboarding and jet skiing, has been found to contain an unexpectedly large amount of submerged debris.
They hope to have thoroughly swept it with sonar and open again next sping.
