More sign madness at Yarramundi

By johnboy - 18 April 2011 10

signage

DaveB has spotted another fascinating piece of signage around Canberra:

Here’s another one. It’s on Lady Denman Drive near the junction with Cotter Road.

This is the sign for those tourists looking for the hard to find Scrivener Ddam, National Zoquarium and Aquariumuseum.

It’s good to see everyone being catered to.

This has been like this for a good couple of years. The problem is the way the coverplate has been fixed to the sign. Normally rivets would be used instead of an adhesive.

I love zoquariums.

Should be more of them I reckon…

I know you’re all dying for an update on this – the dodgy sign has finally been replaced with a shiny new one. Only took 18 months 🙂

A year after this article was first posted, this sign has still not been fixed.

Also, the signs that used to indicate the Government House lookout, just before you got to its carpark, are no longer there.

And, that lookout carpark…is still unsealed and a heck of a mess whenever it rains.

Great find DaveB!

I have always found the name Yarramundi very intriguing. I presume it refers in a way to Yarramundi Reach. The NCA uses it like this – as Yarramundi – on their signs in this area, but none of the places listed on those signs actually mention it in their addresses, and as a place name it does not appear on any maps that I have ever seen. It isn’t a suburb name. It isn’t used on any ACT publications such as maps or guides that I know of. Does Yarramundi have boundaries? Are there signs to let you know you have arrived in Yarramundi?

Anyway…just putting it out there into the ether.

Same for Jamison. Officially no such place.

and Manuka as well.

D-D-D-D-Damn!

It shall henceforth and forever only be known as the Zoquariumuseum!

Oh, and one last thing. Isn’t it sad that the car park for the Government House Lookout is a dirt one? It has never been sealed. When it rains heavily it pot-holes and scree and stones spread out on to Lady Denman Drive. If the NCA can afford to maintain the very long Dunrossil Drive, you would think they could pave the lookout car park!

Looks like someone nicked one half of an updated patch panel or the Act Govt needs to find a better superglue supplier

Who doesn’t love a trip to the Zoquarium? Is the additional D in Dam, simlar to bra sizing – is it now a bit larger?
