I heard once that Canberra has one of the highest participation rates for recreational running. I don’t know if that’s true but those of us who do lace on our sneakers for regular runs will already know about the Mother’s Day Classic fun run.
It’s a fund raiser for breast cancer research (you’ll see lots of pink t-shirts) and it’s national – there are simultaneous events across the country. Canberra’s event winds its way around the central basin of Lake Burley Griffin – for a 10km or 5km distance. You can easily walk the 5km option in an hour or so, there is a good vibe and it’s a great cause.
It’s also a cracking way to spend Mother’s Day (11 May) with or without your Mum – though it is a great with her, you can follow up with a yummy brunch somewhere after.
There’s still time to register. See www.mothersdayclassic.com.au
