A motorcyclist died in a collision with a Nissan four-wheel drive on Southern Cross Drive, Florey late on Thursday afternoon.

ACT Policing said the motorcyclist was a 38-year-old family man from Canberra.

Police said his yellow Harley Davidson motorcycle had collided with the four-wheel drive about 5:10 pm on the corner of Southern Cross Drive and Ratcliffe Crescent.

Members of the public had responded to the accident and given CPR, with ACT Fire and Rescue and ACT Ambulance arriving within minutes, but the man died at the scene.

ACT Policing’s Collision Investigation and Reconstruction Team are examining the circumstances surrounding the collision and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.

Police had spoken to the male driver and only occupant of the four-wheel drive but said it was too early to speculate on the cause of the accident.

This is the second fatality on Canberra’s roads this year.

Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident and have not yet spoken to police to contact ACT Policing on 131444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via http://act.crimestoppers.com.au
