Sixth person killed on Canberra's roads following motorcyclist's death in Holt

A motorcyclist has been killed in a two-vehicle collision on Southern Cross Drive in Holt.

ACT Policing had responded to reports of a crash between an Isuzu truck travelling eastbound and a motorcycle travelling westbound, approaching the intersection with Beaurepaire Crescent, at about 5:10 pm on Tuesday (18 June).

The motorcyclist was treated by emergency service crews at the scene before they were taken to hospital in a critical condition.

They were declared deceased soon after arriving.

The truck driver is assisting police with their investigation.

Southern Cross Drive was closed in both directions as a result of the crash, but has since reopened.

This is the sixth person killed on Canberra’s roads this year.

Joshua Stewart, 19, was killed in January after the allegedly stolen vehicle he was travelling in was involved in a crash on the Barton Highway.

A 14-year-old boy has been charged over the incident and is before the courts.

Tennis Canberra coach Alicia Celaya Jauregui was killed while riding her bike on Lady Denman Drive in March.

A flipped Toyota Camry was found in the middle of Adelaide Avenue in Yarralumla on 17 April, and a 15-year-old boy with critical injuries was found nearby. He was transported to hospital where he later died.

A 46-year-old male motorbike rider died after a single-vehicle crash on Brindabella Road on 21 April, and another was killed in a two-vehicle crash near the intersection of Sulwood and Athllon Drives on 23 May.
