This weekend cycling action of all disciplines returns to Mount Stromlo with the Brindabella Challenge. There will be all types of mountain biking from social rides, through to racing in cross country, 4X and downhill formats. The roadies don’t miss out either as there will be criterion and road racing events too. The mountain biking should be huge as a lot of punters will be out for a sneak preview before the national mountain bike championships return to Stromlo on the Australia day weeekend.

Now I’m just wondering where is the ACT Govt media release touting the reopening of Stromlo after all the cash and effort expended? Regardless, big thanks to Canberra Off-Road Cyclists (CORC) for driving the rebuilding of the mountain bike trails at Stromolo.

Sure you can walk around on the designated trails, although you will need to ensure you have good control over your dog as there are many other walkers/runners, riders, and horseriders using the area. Also as described here you will have to pick up your dog’s crap. Enjoy!

Can I take my dog there for a run and crap?

Nope, the new event centre at the foot of Stromlo has a nice start finish loop which beautifully directs the roadies out onto the cotter loop.

As for me I’m all for dirt. Hell, rip up the bitumen cycle lanes, lay down dirt on the side of the road with a few jumps and berms. It will be a lot cheaper than bitumen, more entertaining for me to commute, and it will keep those pesky cars outta my way.

if it gets them off the roads, i’m for it.
