National Multicultural Festival 2011

By johnboy - 31 January 2011 15

multiculi dancer

Garema Place is filling up with marquees for the 2011 Multicultural Festival and at noon today the launch was held with Minister for Multicultural Affairs Joy Burch and the obligatory display of drums and dancers.

A Jessica Mauboy performance had been promised but did not eventuate.

A highlight was the nutty old woman abusing yours truly for blocking her view of the spectacle while trying to take photos, at a media launch.

With Masterchef culturally rampant they’re also bringing in celebrity chefs to share their knowledge if you’re into that sort of thing.

Once hopes the simple charms of Beer And Meat On A Stick Day are not lost.

What’s Your opinion?

It only goes for a weekend this year? It will be even more packed! I haven’t been going there at night for years because there’s nowhere to sit, you have to line up for hours to get any food and it is boring as BS.

Now the Fringe Festival when it was at the Street Theatre, THAT was great!

It only ran for a weekend last year, and yes it was packed.

I would like the Fringe festival in any of it’s previous formats back in town and not part of the Folk festival, although looking at the folk festival site there doesn’t appear to be any mention of the Fringe component this year.

is it just me, or has the dancer in the pic dressed as ‘Predator’?

I thought that was Jessica Mauboy…

I got excited seeing all the marques getting put up yesterday…. I thought the beer and meat on a stick festival would be THIS weekend.

Why are they putting up the marques more than a week in advance !?

I’d like the Multicultural Festival to have a better website so we could find other events we might want to go to? And are they sending out the booklet in the mail, or even printing one this year?

They have an exhibitors map on the website. It appears to be a scan of a fax, which has made the words unreadable. Tidy work there.

I hope the Belgian beer tent is there again this year.

I love the International Sausage Sizzle!

The Fringe Festival was always the second best part of the Festival, I reckon. I miss it.

I guess I should wander in today and have a look around.

Pity about Hargreaves getting his moral knickers in a knot over the fringe festival and canning it a few years ago.

I suspect sexynotsmart didn’t realise the Over-Sensitive Festival (aka Storm In A Teacup On A Stick Day) was being held at the same time.

Who is it disrepectful to if someone goes to watch predator and says “Hey, is it just me or is the bad guy dressed up like a whoever that represents

Sometimes you just cant win.

Looking forward to this. First year the little one will be old enough to have some fun.

Apologies in advance for raising the issue because I’m sure this will have already been covered but what’s the current state of the Fringe Festival? Is it still confined to being part of the Folk festival at Natex?
