According to the “Canberra City News”, and other sources, Canberra Airport’s new terminal is supposed to be opening this Sunday, at 5 a.m.
Given this, I am surprised by the lack of promotion of this impending, and long-waited for, important development for Canberra.
According to the airport’s own web site, the terminal was supposed to be completed already:
The impressive part of Canberra Airport’s AirVolution is the new terminal building.
The existing terminal building will be demolished in stages to make room for the new bigger and better facility. The project will be built in two stages; the first due for completion in October this year is the Southern Concourse Terminal Extension and the second stage known as the Western Concourse Terminal Extension is due for completion in 2012.
There are no details at all on the web site about the terminal’s opening this Sunday.
So, is the construction on track, is the opening actually going ahead on Sunday…are we about to see a publicity blitz over the weekend? Or, is something wrong out at Fairbairn?
UPDATE: Andrew Barr has put out a media release on this.
