Hmmm they did a similar thing in Curtin adn it ended up being another bloody bike lane…… we shgould eb seeing the black tyre marks appearing soon as drivers dodge the bike riders trying to merge with oncoming traffic doing 60kms. Bike vs car – car always wins. It is just plain dangerous whichever idiot designed that one.

why waste out money to erase it and do it again.. it’s probably still wider than half of sydneys roads!

I think the lanes resizing is due to an on-road cycle lane being added.

I usually come at this from Sulwood so not a huge issue for me however, on the weekend when I was coming down the hill I too thought it was a bit skinny. I thought that when they just had the plastic markers there pre line marking, but it is really noticable now the paint is down.

Perhaps done by the same people who a few years ago painted the confusing lines turning from two lanes on Yamba into three on Hindmarsh giving both lanes the impression they could go into the centre lane. They redid it a short while later.

I was in the middle lane lunchtime yesterday in preparation for a RH turn at the roundabout, and thought “cripes, this lane sure is skinny!”

I had noticed that too. I had assumed the line dividing the merging lanes just continues farther than it used to, and the centre lane narrows substantially before the merge (I haven’t actually used the right lane though). Drivers should already be well into merging mode by the time this happens though, so I don’t think it makes that much difference.
