New Acton’s Nishi building has been awarded International Project of the Year at the 2015 Building Awards in London, according to the NewActon Precinct’s Facebook page.

Designed by internationally renowned architects Fender Katsalidis and Arup, Nishi beat projects in Hong Kong, Norway, Switzerland and the Middle East to take out the title.

The Building Awards are the United Kingdom’s longest running and most prestigious recognition of excellence, showcasing the best in all areas of construction.

They must be desperate for innovation if they think this monstrosity/eyesore is worth an award. Looks more like something from a video game based on the Mogadishu area in a post apocalyptic zombie world.

Agree – parts of it look like old sets from Steptoe & Son.
Appears that the way to win these “prestigeous awards” is to be more “in your face” and offensive to good taste than your peers.

There are things I like very much about it and there are things that seem to be trying too hard to be different. And I’ve heard the clever cross-ventilation is problematic so while such features might sound good in theory it doesn’t necessarily make for a nice place for the occupants (didn’t the Cameron Offices also win awards?).
