Not that it has anything to do with it, but those streets aren’t designed for large vehicles anymore. What was a fuel tanker doing in the middle of the CBD? The only service stations are in Braddon.

Have you ever driven in Sydney? Our roads are more than wide enough for trucks. We just need to realise that our roads have been too wide and too cruisy for too long. Time to actually concentrate when driving…

The pic in today’s Crimes seems to show that it was rolled on a straight section. How the **** do you manage that?

The truck came to rest on the short straight section of road between London Circuit and City Hill, having presumably rolled in the turn out of City Hill.

according my my Mk I eyeball it’s open now.

That’s interesting, I drove through Civic and over Comm Ave Bridge just before 8am and there were heaps of coppers surveying the scene and the road from London Circ to the Parkes Way exit was closed, with city-bound traffic being diverted to Parkes Way.

They must have re-opened the road not long after, which would have pleased the three lanes of solid traffic as far as I could see before turning off near the Library.

Saw a removals van had taken out one of the trees along limestone ave yesterday too ended up in the middle of the median strip. Crushed the right hand sde of the cabin roof. Lots of emergency vehicles in attendance. did not hear about it on the news.

It wasn’t a tanker. 200l is a fuel tank, not a tanker, which could have spilled up to 40,000l.

The trailer was a pantech, a curtain-sider. From what I saw it was scaffolding. One of the workmen unloading the truck before it could be righted said his load was top heavy and he didn’t take enough care coming around the last bend. Speed was a factor, but he wasn’t necessarily “speeding”. Even at 60km/h a truck can travel that far before finally coming to rest on its side.

It wasn’t a fuel tanker. A fuel tanker would have a hell of a lot more than 200L. The trailer was one that has blue canvas sliding walls on either side to allow access and appeared to be carrying scaffolding, possibily from the Australia Day concert.

according my my Mk I eyeball it’s open now.

According to TrafficCanberra (http://twitter.com/#!/TrafficCanberra ) Northbourne is still closed this morning (Friday).

Ever since they narrowed Northbourne Ave to make the bike lanes, it has been dangerous and scary to have semi trailers and buses in Civic. I’ve been in the middle lane with one on either side and barely escaped with my mirrors intact. Not that it has anything to do with it, but those streets aren’t designed for large vehicles anymore. Road was still blocked at 6am. It appears the truck had rolled on Vernon Circle, northbound, outside the courts. No right trun into London Cct from Northbourne and all cars exit onto Parkes Way from Commonwaelth Av Bridge.

The traffic around 6pm was backed up all the way past Parliament House and the Lodge – I was glad I was going the other way.

Being only 25 he may have been slightly less experienced, but he probably got cut off by some rice racer, had to take evasive action and had half his rig swallowed by a pot-hole…

Everyone was asleep at the wheel today! As I headed towards the city on Adelaide Ave tonight, there was also a 3 car crash at the southbound Deakin off ramp holding up cars. After remarking how it’d suck to be caught in that traffic, I rounded Parliament House to be confronted with a looong line of cars after this truck incident. That’s karma folks……

I saw there had been an incident via the ACT Pol twitter feed. Didn’t know it was a truck rollover, though. That’s pretty dramatic. But, how on earth did this ever happen?!
