Monaro St runs South-West to North-East. Does that mean the truck traveling in a northerly direction was going sideways?

I was wondering pretty much the same thing, I’ve always figured Monaro st is pretty much East-West.

It gets a bit confusing when police and the media try and give directions. Whenever an accident happens at Gunning we are told that it is “south of Goulburn” or “north of Yass” when it is, in fact, west of Goulburn and east of Yass. Most people regard the Hume as running north-south between Sydney and Melbourne so the media feeds this.

If memory serves me correctly, it was a Monaro Mix concrete truck that killed 2 children playing in a cardboard box in Banks years ago. The driver took a short cut across vacant land where the children were playing. Tragic in both cases. Condolences to the families.
