The Turner PCYC closed for the last time yesterday, the ABC reported.

After 46 years in the inner city the club is relocating to Charnwood, where there may or may not be more young people.

The club’s general manager told the ABC the move is because structural problems with the building mean it is unsafe. They hope to move back to Turner sometime in the future, if it is possible.

ahh but general beating each other around is fine

Yeah, my wife does (sorry, did) jujitsu at Turner, and said that they couldn’t continue it at the old Charnwood High because of the buddhism thing (even though they’ve got nothing to do with buddhism at all). We just laughed when they said that was the reason – interested that they don’t have a problem with the wrestlers or boxers!

Yeah, it is… that’s what the letter/notices said

Putting 2 + 2 It seems that the building might be the old Charnwood High School. Given the attitude, if correct, to a bit of healthy rough and tumble, one wonders how the new Medical Co-op, looking at renting space there will fare. Some ops not on?

I wonder how much the God Botherers paid for those premises?

My boyfriend’s a member and he said soething about them probably going to put extra uni-targeted accomodation with new gym facilities etc.

He also said they were trying to find a place top do jujitsu training but something about a place they looked at benig a christian centre who said that since “all martial arts come from buddhism” they couldn’t allow any to train there. hmm

I’m a member of the Turner PCYC, and they sent us a letter regarding the closure last week. It was a terrific gym, full of really nice people and although the building was quite old, the equipment was pretty good (they had recently replaced all their dumbells with new ones).

Given the location of the PCYC (right in the city), I wouldn’t be surprised to see the building torn down and apartments/offices replace it.
