Police ask assailants to hand themselves in after drive-by attack on roadworkers

Police are calling for multiple assailants to hand themselves in to police after a drive-by attack on roadworkers yesterday morning (15 January).

Police have released a statement calling for the people responsible for an “assault with an improvised weapon” – believed be a spud cannon – which was fired at roadworkers at the intersection of Coppins Crossing Road and William Hovell Drive, to come forward.

Around 9 am, a projectile was fired from a maroon-coloured vehicle travelling westbound through the roadworks zone, hitting two men.

One man was transported to hospital by ACT Ambulance Service with significant injuries requiring extensive treatment, while the second man was uninjured.

ACT Policing are investigating the incident and would like to hear from anyone who may have dash-cam footage or any information that could assist police to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
