People Objects Fetish
May 30 – June 13
Opening 7pm, May 20Three students from the ANU School of Art Photomedia department will combine their powers to adorn the walls of Garema Place Bar, Honkytonks.
Exhibitor, Sophie Penkethman Young says:
I’m doing this because I hate myself and I want more stress in my life, especially at assessment time.Of the theme, People Objects Fetish, she says:
Sex sells. So I decided if I was going to put on an exhibition and make some money, it should be about sex. The title, “Putting on a Show at Honkytonks” also relates to fetish, voyeurism and exhibitionism.Of the group exhibiting, she says:
We’ve been going to art school together and we hang out a lot and we all get drunk. Why exhibit at Honkytonks?
Because they asked me. I was at the ANU Bar when they called. I realized that I couldn’t possibly get enough work together in their time frame. I was sitting next to Janis so I asked him if he’d like to exhibit with me. Then, ‘cause I’m inseparable from Matt, I asked him too. Also, we have similar enough styles that they can fit together. We’re each doing a wall with four works.
