Raiders advance to a Saturday final against South Sydney. Raiders 34, Sharks 16

By johnboy - 9 September 2012 13

It looks like a good time was had out at Canberra Stadium today with the Raiders triumphing over a Cronulla Sharks outfit that spat the dummy early and far.

Souths will host us in Sydney at 7.30 next Saturday.

UPDATE 09/09/12 21:03:

Foxsports has the story on a game in which Cronulla showed us all the poise and grace for which The Shire is famed:

Canberra will play South Sydney in a sudden-death semi-final after scoring four late tries to bury a determined Cronulla 34-16 in Sunday’s NRL elimination final at Canberra Stadium.

The Raiders were clinging to an 18-16 lead with 13 minutes to go before they finished with a flurry, their late spurt including a double to former Shark Blake Ferguson as they ended Cronulla’s season in a brilliant contest.

It was a spirited performance form the Sharks, who played without star pivot Todd Carney for a large period after he went off with an achilles injury, which he carried into the game, eight minutes into the second stanza.

Negating Paul Gallen was Josh Papalii’s personal mission, with the young Kiwi belting the Sharks skipper with several massive hits, helping give the Raiders crucial momentum.

Agreed. I remember attending a Raiders away game a few years back in Penrith (regular season, not finals) and Panthers fans were throwing bottles and cans at the Raiders players. You get them everywhere you go.

I’ve never had an issue in Canberra before. Even Parramatta is quite tame compared to some of the “fans” I saw on Sunday arvo.

They leave early so they don’t get stuck in traffic. Seriously thats why they leave early.

+1 for this. I bus it to and from both Raiders (when I go) and Brumbies games, and never understood this part of the Canberra psyche. A bit like raging in slow moving traffic; it could always be worse.

I’d rather drive than have to put up with drunks on the bus.

Foxsports are reporting that Croker is out for the rest of the year with a fractured cheekbone.

I also sat in bay 50. From what I saw both Raiders and Sharks fans were very well behaved.

It was a great day and I dont think I have heard the stadium that loud before.

I took the missus and younguns to the game, we were the only Sharks supporters in Bay 50. Boy did we cop it. I don’t mind a good ribbing, but the abuse that was being hurled at children as young as 3 was not very cool.

As usual, Raiders fans started leaving with 20 minutes on the clock (Why?!? It happens every time!).

After playing some ball and waiting for the players to come out, a charming Raiders supporter started throwing colourful language at some kids in Sharks gear, and when their mother asked him to stop, he simply got worse. He didn’t see the copper in the shadows behind him, and was removed from the premises.

That cop was on fire, never seen a law enforcement official do his job with so much dark enthusiasm! He must have been a Sharks fan…

As for fans you get bad ones everywhere. The last game I went to against the broncos this year, there were abusive fans from both teams. even fellow raiders and broncos fans who told them to stop it, didn’t have an effect and one Raiders fan who was giving crap to another Raiders fan was kicked out. Also it was not a sterotypical fan either, but a young lady who’d had too much to drink. I don’t think we even knew what she was arguing about or if she knew either….

Without wanting to sound like a troll (shush, honestly I’m not), has anyone on here reported the behaviour of the apparent transgressors in Bay 57? Either the security contractor, the Raiders, or Canberra Stadium?

With all of bay 57 looking like they themselves have never had the balls to play the game.

My disgust continues for the absolute filth that sit in the front row of Bay 57.

They’re at every Raiders home game (season ticket holders). One of the main culprits wears a camouflage Raiders jersey. I’m sure a lot of people on here know who I’m talking about.

Their behavior is absolutely disgusting. They’re highly abusive & sometimes violent towards away fans. It’s been going on for yrs now. It amazes me that the club & or stadium haven’t done something about them.

My thoughts exactly. I had the misfortune to sit a few rows behind them recently. I can’t believe they haven’t been kicked to the curb before now.
