Raiders go down 18-8 to the Tigers

Foxsports have the sorry tale of the Raiders’ latest loss:

The Tigers trailed 8-6 with five minutes remaining before Beau Ryan and Daniel Fitzhenry sent the 19,428 crowd wild with two late tries to deny a determined Canberra outfit.

Tim Sheens’ side dominated large spells of the game, but were let down by some wayward passing which saw them bomb at least four potential tries, with Lote Tuqiri a major culprit.

Never a dull moment for Raiders fans.

So what you’re saying, 2604, is that when you move somewhere, no matter what your existing allegiances, you’re a dirty rotten scoundrel if you don’t support the team in your new town, no matter how inept they are?

No.

What I’m saying is that anyone who supports a team – Raiders, NSW Origin, Brumbies, Adelaide Crows, whomever – and then stops supporting that team because it’s no longer winning is weak as p!ss.

That’s you, “mate”.

Does this mean I should now be supporting the Cockroaches in State of Origin? Get nicked, mate! Or as my fellow Nambourite, Big Kev, would say, get ratf—–.

#6, 2604, I’d say the fade outs have happened in more than those games, eg the Titans and Broncos where the Raiders hung on just, to some degree vs the Warriors too. Also I’m not totally convinced the inexperience of the backline is the big problem when the Raiders turn to crap – more often than not its Campese and McCrone disappearing from the game and some of the more experienced forwards dropping off in intensity.

Frustrating result I agree but I stand with 2604. Furner was a great player and a nice bloke but that doesn’t qualify him to be a good coach. I wonder about his half-time talks, can’t be too inspiring as our second halves have generally been very poor.

Well, 2604, how do you explain how the Faders can often play 60 minutes OK, but never the final 20?

By “never” I suppose you mean the two Tigers games and the Souths game this year? I’d put the fade outs in those games down to the average age of the backline (minus Campese) being 20, and them still getting used to the pace & psychology of first-grade football. Despite their inexperience, they’ve knocked off the Broncos, Titans and Dragons this year – all top eight sides.

Again, well done on supporting your local team.

Great attitude there 54-11 – clearly, if a team isn’t winning consistently, it isn’t worth supporting. No doubt you were also a big Brumbies and Cannons man while those teams were at the height of their success and popularity.

Re “an understrength team trying its hardest”, did you even watch the game? Dugan and Tongue out with injury, Campese and Croker playing injured, and Scott Logan breaking his arm 20 mins into the game…yeah, I’d say they were pretty understrength. And yet the Raiders held out the Tigers – placed fourth on the ladder, at home, and with 20,000 fans behind them – until the 75th minute, when they were undone by Ryan’s freakish try.

I generally tip against them in the work competition, and this week it paid off.

I’m no longer a Raiders fan. When your team simply isn’t good enough to beat the opposition, you can take some pride in the fact that they’re trying hard and maybe one day it will come together.

But the Faders are not like that. I’ve lost count of the number of times they’ve been in the lead, often by big margins, and then go to sleep.

That’s not the sign of an understrength team trying it’s hardest.

That’s the sign of a team made up of spoiled brats who are quite capable of doing the job but just can’t be bothered. they’re lazy, unmotivated, spoiled and all too often, pathetic.
