The Canberra Raiders Board has laid down an ultimatum to Todd Carney. Sit out the rest of the NRL season and get counselling, or risk losing his contract with the Raiders. If Carney should lose his contract, he will then be de-registered from the NRL, meaning the only place he will be able to play footy is overseas. As part of Carneys rehab he will also have to volunteer in the community (please no jokes about cleaning public toilets). You can read the full story on www.nrl.com.au.

On side note I was at the Raiders game tonight, and Carneys replacement Mark Herbert, aquitted himself quite well. While he took a back seat to Terry Campese’s man of the match performance, he came up with some good kicks and managed to bag a try. It seems that the Raiders finally have a bit of depth, and the future is bright.

Same thing they said to him last year.

I don’t really see what the “ultimatum” is. It’s not like he has the option to ignore the request and keep playing.

Fire him. He sounds like a repeat offender who it just a foul person. He’s doing untold damage to the fan base and the reputation of the team. If I did that at my workplace, I;d be gone. I think this would be the case for most people.

I don’t think he’ll have to get a real job. If push comes to shove and he can’t play here in Australia, he’d have plenty of opportunity overseas to rake in the cash.

I am not a Raiders fan however it is good to see his peers (with obviously more CDF than him or that oxygen thief Bronx) have appropriately addressed his behavior. Can’t say I believe that this will make a difference other than to delay the decline of Carney to the point he has to get a real job.
