I fear West Papua is as lost a cause as they get. But if you’re more into the justice of the thing we have word of a rally at Parliament House on 18 September at 11.30am.

The West Papua community in Australia wishes to highlight the nearby and ongoing state violence in Indonesia’s troubled province of West Papua.

On Tuesday 18th September from 11.30 am – 1.30 pm sharp there will be a rally outside Parliament House, Canberra by West Papuans to highlight our issues of concern. We welcome upper and lower house parliamentarians and their staff to come and meet with us for discussions and tok tok.

I don’t support this issue. Whilst I think we should make strident representations where we have a concern about potential human rights abuses, I agree with Bob Carr on this one. West Papua is unliekly to be a viable state on its own and Australian support for the independence movement would unncessarily compromise our improtant relationship with Indonesia.
