Ray Martin: The stories behind the legends

By aidan - 26 November 2011 3

Ray Martin will be giving a free public lecture at the ANU next week.

Canberra Times ANU Literary Event, Meet the Author Series 2011

Award-winning journalist Ray Martin, one Australia’s most loved personalities, brings together some of his most memorable interviews in his latest book, Ray Martin’s Favourites: The stories behind the legends

Ray Martin’s Favourites offers an intriguing insight into extraordinary celebrities such as Dustin Hoffman talking about sex, Jane Fonda talking about God, and some wisdom from Patrick Dodson, the father of reconciliation. Here, too, are details of the last interviews with Sir Donald Bradman, Fred Hollows and Kerry Packer.

Ray Martin’s lifetime in journalism makes him the ideal person to recount the stories behind the legends, having won five Gold Logies, more than twenty Silver Logies and an unmatched number of People’s Choice Awards. He was awarded an Order of Australia in 2011. His best-selling autobiography, Ray: Stories of My Life was published in 2009

Gee, this’ll really put the ANU back on the world map!

Who’s next – John Laws?

He lost me when he took the indignant moral high ground when John Safran and co were turning A Current Affair tactics back on him by staying outside his house and filming, looking through his bins etc. Seems he is a recent convert to journalistic integrity but I’m afraid for me it rings pretty hollow.

Maybe he is a “much loved personality” amongst his peers but I doubt if he has made any positive contribution to Australians generally by talking about non-Australian celebrities Dustin Hoffman and Jane Fonda.
Give me a break.
