The post mortem on the man found deceased at Bega Flats in Reid has been completed with the results being referred to the ACT Coroner who will ultimately rule on the cause of death. ACT Policing is treating the death as not suspicious.

Criminal Investigations detectives will continue with investigations into the matter and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.

Acting Deputy Chief Police Officer – Crime, Paul Shakeshaft has said ACT Policing is focusing its resources to resolve the three deaths that have occurred in Canberra over the past two weeks.

“It is extremely rare and unfortunate that Canberra has experienced two homicides in such a short space of time. The Lyneham homicide was the first for 2013 and to have another homicide in Phillip at the beginning of 2014, followed by the death in Reid is simply tragic for the family and friends of these men,” DCPO Shakeshaft said.

“ACT Policing has established two separate and dedicated taskforces to investigate the homicides. While I cannot disclose the progress of the investigations I can say that we have made positive progress with both. I ask for the community’s patience while police continue their thorough and methodical investigations.

“Canberra is a safe place to live and the incidence of homicide is rare. ACT Policing will continue to focus on the safety of the community and will maintain a presence in the areas where the deaths occurred,” DCPO Shakeshaft said.
Any members of the community with any information regarding these deaths should call Crime Stoppers ACT on 1800 333 000. Callers to Crime Stoppers can choose to remain anonymous.
