RiotACT Birthday Drinkies.

By johnboy 25 November 2008 51

This Thursday RiotACT turns 8.

27 November 2000 was the dawn of the RiotERA, a cranky old 486 with 16MB of RAM running PHP Nuke code on a borrowed fixed IP and a come.to address pointing it in. We still have readers arriving on that come.to.

We’ll be having a few quiet drinks at Edgars in Ainslie (Edgar St, Ainslie shops) from 6.30pm, Thursday evening to mark the event.

Lurkers, commenters, and casual readers are welcome to join us.

Angry nutters are especially encouraged as we’ll be sure to have a video camera handy and you can’t make that stuff up.

homemade chocolate mudcake.

Am I missing something here?

*chuckle*

That would go well with the rest of the day really ….

Granny 2:48 pm 28 Nov 08

Oh, is it Friday? Yippee!!

tylersmayhem 2:45 pm 28 Nov 08

I didn’t think of it as equality so much as OH&S, Tylers. My sister’s back was damaged working as a nurse aid with not enough wardsmen (not sure what they call them these days). Lifting heavy weights can really be damaging.

You are right Granny. I knew my point was thin when typing it. Just stirring the pot late on a Friday 🙂

Thumper 2:42 pm 28 Nov 08

No problems… 😉

Granny 2:37 pm 28 Nov 08

Oh, sorry!

: )

There was one x dude and one x dudette doing the pack-up when I stopped in, from memory.

Granny, Thumper was sending those files to me (though unfortunately I had to trash them for now since their cumulative size melted my web mail).

You might have to bat your eyelids in Thumper’s direction for copies of the same.

tylersmayhem 2:23 pm 28 Nov 08

It seemed kind of wrong that those girls had to move all that heavy stuff themselves.

Well, it’s all part of equality that the girls have been after for so long. But I do agree with chivalry – even if it isn’t a bloke offering to help. Maybe I better put the lid back on that can of worms!

Granny 1:50 pm 28 Nov 08

Cool! Thanks Thumper – I’d love to hear them.

Thumper 1:30 pm 28 Nov 08

They’ve bounced…

I’ll see if i can send them from home tonight instead 😉

Granny 1:18 pm 28 Nov 08

Wow, thanks Thumper!

: )

I hopes so, too – they haven’t arrived as yet but I’ll keep checking.

Thumper 12:55 pm 28 Nov 08

OH,

I’ve emailed you a couple of demo Feldons songs.

Hope they got through.

I would have either been standing out the front waiting for my lift home or you would have just missed me at that stage. It seemed kind of wrong that those girls had to move all that heavy stuff themselves. I offered to help, but they couldn’t let me of course. It was awful to just have to stand back and watch them struggle with it. I said, “Do you have to do this every night?” and apparently they do. I would have thought the owner should get them one of those wheely trolley things for the stacks of chairs. They were pretty heavy.

It was very nice that you tried, Overheard. Skid and I stayed until closing time at Edgars. You probably just missed us. I would have kicked on for a bit, but then I probably have a sleeping disorder amongst other psychoses and neuroses.

Hope the cake was good. Oh, and as for the other discussion, I have a natural aversion to little umbrellas and swizzle sticks. The only cocktail I ever bother with is a Rusty Nail, and that’s just a glorified mixed drink. It was only two years ago that I had my first Martini and wondered what all the fuss was about. I still had about three — to make sure.

Granny 12:24 pm 28 Nov 08

Ok, I forgive you! Did you win the Scrabble? But who else could I talk to about Moby Pickle or what one elevator said to the other? …

*chuckle*

… and you just had to bring up Robbie again!!

poptop 9:02 am 28 Nov 08

Granny, I foresee we may embark on a course of mutually disappointing each other(Where is the photo of Robbie – Hmmm?). I hope our bond can rise above these trivial irritations. 😉

In my defence, I live Southside, worked late and then went to a friend’s birthday and ate a sliver or two homemade chocolate mudcake. A couple of fiercely contested games of Scrabble and it was past poptop’s bedtime.

: )

I met one other Rioter I hadn’t met before, which was really nice. I kind of missed all my little Riot buddies though … where were you all?! I am especially disappointed in you, poptop, but I may speak to you again ….

Coises! Tried to find the remnants of birthday drinkies/drinkers after knocking off radio duties at 10pm.

10:38pm. No Rioters at Edgars.
10:46pm. No Rioters at Trinity.

Note to self: get some of these guys’ mobile numbers…

tylersmayhem 12:15 pm 27 Nov 08

Nice one Jim. I feel like I;ve been drinking too…I’m agreeing with you and grateful for a change 🙂

Granny 12:07 pm 27 Nov 08

Aaaaaaaargh!! Ant!

*chuckle*

I used to have Manhattens at the Bin (back when it was an actual nightclub and very small). I am pretty sure they used a dry vermouth, a bourbon, and they had the twist of orange peel in there (or attached to the rim, can’t remember, but the act of twisting it releases the oils). From memory, they based their menu on the Vogue book of cocktails.
