In my defence, I live Southside, worked late and then went to a friend’s birthday and ate a sliver or two homemade chocolate mudcake. A couple of fiercely contested games of Scrabble and it was past poptop’s bedtime.

It was very nice that you tried, Overheard. Skid and I stayed until closing time at Edgars. You probably just missed us. I would have kicked on for a bit, but then I probably have a sleeping disorder amongst other psychoses and neuroses.

I met one other Rioter I hadn’t met before, which was really nice. I kind of missed all my little Riot buddies though … where were you all?! I am especially disappointed in you, poptop, but I may speak to you again ….

I used to have Manhattens at the Bin (back when it was an actual nightclub and very small). I am pretty sure they used a dry vermouth, a bourbon, and they had the twist of orange peel in there (or attached to the rim, can’t remember, but the act of twisting it releases the oils). From memory, they based their menu on the Vogue book of cocktails.

I can taste things as I read them, Jim Jones. I’ve never even tried a Manhattan and I’m practically drinking one and it’s driving me crazy!!

But I’m only just getting started Granny … wait until I’m well and truly hammered on Manhattans and decide I want to tell everyone how much I love them.

The big thing for me is using sweet vermouth rather than dry vermouth. Trinity make a point of using good quality rye bourbon – this is great, but you can also get a great Manhattan by using a decent single malt whiskey. Also, that little twist of orange rind around the rim of the glass does an important job. A small tap of bitters in the mix can help if there’s no orange rind handy.

I know, Jim Jones! They certainly are insanely good!! I have never tried their Manhattans, however ….

… And when the rest of Canberra has died like the Eveready bunnies, Trinity is still powering on like Duracell bunny himself!

It took me an eternity to figure out how to get my Manhattans as tasty as they are at Trinity.

Oh, Trinity ……*sigh*…They have the best bartenders in Canberra.

Surely you’re not talking about the same place Granny where the one time I went there, the bar tender insisted on using a straw and forefinger to “test” that every drink he made was spot on! Good grief! One of the most unprofessional (and perhaps ingenious way to drink at work under pretence) that I’ve ever come across.

Well, he can be the best waiter in the known universe then!

I once had such a loooooong lunch in Marinettis that the waiter left us to it, and told us to lock the door on our way out.

Oh, Trinity ….

You missed out on the time we (the attendees) got kicked out of All Bar Nun because it was closing time, so went to Trintiy until it stopped serving drinks, so they packed up all the chairs around us, turned off the heaters, took away our candles, and left us just one staff member, who hung around talking with us while we finished last drinks, until he and just told us to leave because he needed sleep.

He was much more civil than the ABN guys.

RiotACT events tend to finish whenever they shift us to the next room, but attendees seem to hang around buying drinks until closing time.
And then move on to the next bar that is open.

People with such allergies sadly haven’t eaten cake in many, many years. I had my first bite of chocolate in years today: Coles sell chocky in the health food section which is certified free of any nut traces. Yipee!

I am a quite a good cook when I put my mind to it but no, on this occasion I don’t have time so professionals will be taking care of it (plus I’ve never been into cake decorating). chocolate? maybe.. I was thinking cheese cake but if i’ll check back here at 3 today and see what the masses want.

Are you also baking the cake? Should we be afraid?
