Rocky signs with the Brumbies

By johnboy - 3 June 2009 9

ABC radio news is reporting that Rocky Elsom (The Best Player In The World unless you think it’s Pierre Spies) has put pen to paper with the Brumbies after intense speculation.

If they also get James O’Connor anything less than a home final next year will be an intense disappointment.

UPDATE: The Brumbies’ media release is now available:

CA Brumbies Head Coach Andy Friend says Elsom returns to Australia having enhanced his global reputation in the Northern Hemisphere.

“Rocky has played an integral role in any of his sides’ success over the past five years, whether it be the Waratahs, the Wallabies or Leinster,” he said. “He’s a very impressive athlete and he’s undoubtedly been the form player in Europe this season.

“He’s an immense physical presence on the field, he’s got incredible brute strength, he’s extremely agile for a big man and there aren’t too many players in world rugby who’d like to see Rocky Elsom charging at them. He consistently has an incredibly high work rate and offers some utility value across the back row.

“We’re very pleased to have Rocky joining us for 2010 and we’re excited to see what he will do in Brumbies colours.”

…keeping in mind that as far as Super 14 goes, the standard was pretty low this year.

Hugh Lews, I’d take that rugby heaven results with a very large grain of salt. Its a matter of opinion as to who made that team and mostly off the back of one eyed sydney media bias.

I didn’t see too much Sydney Bias in that team of the year. You could argue a case for Polota-Nau, although probably not Benn Robinson. Apart from Robinson, the only selection I disagreed with outright was Conrad Smith. Pretty fair, overall.

He is sounding more and more like a waratah supporter as he ages disgracefully in my book.

A back rower with a bit of c*nt in him will never go astray. Didn’t think this would happen. Great for the Brumbies and, with Gits return, we could be back to the halcyon days.

Great stuff

Hardly…

He will be excellent for the Brumbies. Him and George Smith together is an awesome combination. But there are a lot of better players at the moment.

I don’t know about “intense disappointment”, although certainly there’s a fair bit of pressure on them to at least make the finals next season.
