HIA Custom Built Home of the Year.
Canberra builders Rosin Bros have taken out the esteemed Custom Built Home of the Year award at the HIA-CSR ACT & Southern NSW Housing Awards held at the National Convention Centre in Canberra recently.
The awards recognise excellence in residential building across Canberra and surrounding regions, and are one of the industry’s biggest events of the year. They are judged by experienced industry professionals including Builders and Designers.
The private and meticulously designed single storey home in Yarralumla won best Custom Built Home in the $700,000-$900,000 category, before winning the prestigious Custom Built Home of the Year award.
It features 3 bedrooms plus study, two living areas, a covered outdoor area, high ceilings, high windows in the main living area to bring in the northern sun, double lock up garage with internal access, natural building materials and a high energy efficiency rating.
Robert Rosin, Director of Rosin Bros, says that their client approached them after deciding to downsize from their current property and do a knock down rebuild in Canberra’s inner south.
“They wanted single level living, so it was fortuitous that this block became available in Yarralumla. It’s situated on the high side of the street, on a large flat block, with a northern orientation to the side and no large regulated trees that may have caused planning or shade issues.
“Having built before, the home owners knew exactly what they wanted to achieve, so we worked in collaboration with award-winning DNA Architects and interior designer Melinda Boag to create a design to suit their needs.”
Robert says they were able to pinpoint any potential design issues in advance, using the Rosin Bros 3D walkthrough software that allows clients to take a simulated “walk through” of their layout and make changes prior to starting building.
The Rosin Bros team began demolition and asbestos removal of the tired old home in 2015, before completing the build in early 2016.
“The client was seeking a home that combined comfort, natural light, accessibility and classic finishes. Open plan living, heated floors in the bathroom, timber flooring throughout, and products from proven suppliers such as Miele and Hansgrohe all came together to create a beautiful, sustainable and modern home that will absolutely stand the test of time.”

This year’s award is one of countless building awards won by Robert and Danny Rosin, who are second-generation builders and have been building homes in Canberra for over 20 years.
