Rubbish removal – a wee leather couch problem

By weeziepops - 18 January 2011 16

One of my cats decided to improve my leather two seater couch by adding a generous puddle of urine to its bouquet.

Cat wiss is notoriously difficult to remove so I am cutting my losses and using this as an excuse to get a new lounge.

I’m having a bit of trouble finding someone who will come and take the couch to the tip for me.  Any recommendations from Rioters?

Not sure what the going rate it for such a job but, with each day that passes, my tolerance for the smell of wee is commensurately increasing my initial budget.

What’s Your opinion?

Sundance, I asked for recommendations for rubbish removal. Note: recommendation as opposed to just a telephone number which I could easily get from the yellow pages. I didn’t want to inflict a couch that stinks of piss on anyone else. I wanted to get it removed and disposed of.

I ended up using Wright Way Rubbish Removal (phone 0404 621 313) and they were great. $65 to take away the wee couch and tip fees only to also get rid of an old TV. The quote was much less than the others I got, they turned up on time and I now live in a wee-free home. I recommend them to anyone else needing this type of service. The cat refuses to be ashamed of his actions and is casting a suspicious eye towards the armchairs… Seriously, though, I think it was a protest against the foster kittens I had in from the RSPCA and he is okay now they have gone up for adoption.

Have you tried leaving it on the footpath & waiting for someone to steal it? No, I’m serious.

At least be fair – piss on the cat’s couch.

There’s a product called Urine Off. Which comes in a trigger bottle or by a big bucket load. Works well if you haven’t already treated the wee with something other than a sponge. The key is not let it soak too deep. When I lived in Tamworth, Stainbusters the carpet cleaners sold it, but I am not sure who in Canberra would have it.

I think the OP has decided a new leather lounge (and they are quite cheap at Hardly Normals) is necessary. No “stainbuster” stain/smell remover will do.

I would suggest, however, that the cat in question needs a good talking to. Perhaps send it to the bathroom for long periods until it learns to control its urges to wee where it is not acceptable? 😉

I’m sure Captain RAAF will have a few ideas on how too fix this issue.

Many people have no sense of smell and would probably like the cat-affected couch. Put it on the naturestrip with “FREE” on it. Someone will take it away for you. And even if they later notice the smell, you’ll be too busy fending the cat off your new couch to care.

You do realise the cat is going to piss on the new couch.

So wouldn’t you be better off throwing the cat out ? Whatever is causing this behaviour needs to be resolved before the new lounge arrives.

Make the offending cat take it to the tip.

And be sure to put an unrealistically high price on the “For Sale” sign, to further tempt thieves.

Put it on the nature strip with a For Sale sign on it. It will be pinched in 24 hours.
