Russell Field pleads not guilty

By johnboy - 15 April 2009 12

The Canberra Times brings word that the accused Couchman Crescent double murderer, Russell Field, 20, has plead not guilty to the “fatal double shooting of senior Rebels Motorcycle Club member Richard Roberts, 57, and his associate Gregory Carrigan, 48, last month.”

Despite fears to the contrary Field, of Chisholm, appears to have survived so far in custody, where he will remain until the next hearing on May 14.

Just say the words “Self defence” to a Canberra Magistrate and he will eating with his family at Christmas.

Nah, it’d need to be a Supreme Court judge! You’d still get a roasting from the beak.

As for whether the system can keep him safe in custody, it’s very early days at the AMC system is yet to be tested by the real experts.

Noting we’re talking about the AMC and its infamous security issues, I think the issue is not so much keeping him safe in custody as keeping him ‘in’ custody.

No point blaming the judges (at least this time). The way the law is structured here, it is virtually impossible to ‘prove’ murder.

As for whether the system can keep him safe in custody, it’s very early days at the AMC system is yet to be tested by the real experts.

Or maybe he wasn’t holding the gun at all. Were there any grassy knolls nearby?

Allegedly!

+1. He could have had a negligent discharge that only hit the victim from behind when the round rikochetted off the BBQ.

A friend of a friend who visited someone in the recently opened jail told me great efforts have been made to keep Russell segregated from the rest of the jail population.

I would imagine no one was visiting for a nice cup of tea

Given the associations one of the deceased he is alleged to have murdered he probably has a very good self defense case.

You’d be mad to plead guilty to murder in the ACT.
