Preschools, primary schools and high schools were evacuated across Canberra this morning after receiving bomb threats.

Hawker Primary School, Malkara School, Lyons and Narrabundah Early Childhood School, Charnwood-Dunlop School and Lyneham High School were all temporarily evacuated in the morning as a precaution after receiving the threat.

ACT Policing are investigating the threat which was received via email. A police spokesperson said police is working with the Education Directorate and other establishments which have received emails regarding potential bomb threats believed to be linked to an overseas Bitcoin scam.

Police believe these emails are designed to fraudulently elicit payments and said similar emails have been received in other Australian states and internationally.

All schools have returned to normal.

ACT Education Minister Yvette Berry declined to comment.
