Smelly after workout and share housing in Canberra?

By MartianMick 5 September 2012 23

I am considering entering to share housing. I am concerned because I have sport 3 nights a week and I sweat like nothing else. After training there are no showers so I have to come home smelly. I jump straight into the shower because I cannot stand my own smell.

In a share house situation you’re usually renting a room only, so you need to hide from the head tenant. I am wondering what people’s attitude to a housemate comes home smelly then goes straight to the shower.

Now I know this sounds totally ridiculous, but people who run share houses (i.e head tenants) must be assumed to be complete monsters that make real estate agents look like angels until proven otherwise.

i actually thought it would be lousey to have a head tenant – but each to their own… 🙂

You want the head tenant to NOT see you head straight to the shower if you are smelly?

Do you really need a hint?

In most share houses these days the “head tenant” will have the master bedroom with their own bathroom. If its the kind of house that only has one bathroom I really can’t see any of the other tenants being that fussy about some small thing like you walking from the front door to the bathroom all sweaty.
If they do, you probably don’t want to live with them anyway.

As a past “head tenant” I used to give my “peasant tenants”(?) preferential treatment. Sure, I was the one responsible for damages, the one who had to stay for the term of the lease, the one providing all the common area furniture , internet, pay tv (with what was a massive 40inch screen at the time). Their rent however was all inclusive and as such I was living very cheaply (about $80 a week including all bills) and most weekends I had the house to myself anyway as they would go home to Sydney. If you’re a good flat ate you should have no troubles with the right “head tenant”.

I would’ve “seen the light” and got up half an hour earlier each day…. 🙂

I used to live with a housemate who ate rice cakes like there was no tomorrow.
Rice cakes float after passing throught the human digestive tract.
His bowels were as regular as clockwork.
He always woke up before me.

As long as you don’t turn up to the interview after exercising, I don’t really see a problem

rbka 10:51 am 05 Sep 12

In my experience a share house means the house is shared. If you have to hide from the owner/lessee you are in the wrong place, use the interview to check.

Sure you need to work out the best thing collectively ie shower scheduling and housework. If you pong from sport, hard work or sex, take a shower.

The head tenant might be a bit bossy about cleaning and potential damage etc, but they are liable after all.

Erm, you do realise that there are share houses out there with ‘normal’ people living in them, right?

carnardly 10:05 am 05 Sep 12

hide from the head tenant???

Croikey – me and my last ‘head tenant” had dinner together most nights. They cooked most times, and I cleaned up. We watched tv together and had beer and bbqs together.

Isn’t it only weird people that hide from head tenants…? Share housing isn’t always full of crazies. i showered each day when i wanted and if i got extra stinky. I’d be shocked to be told i couldn’t.

You sound very sheltered…

Bathing after sport is considered normal.
Writing about your random share house concerns may not be…
