Hi Rioters, help needed to find spot to place 40ft shipping container for a period of 3-6mths, I am moving to Canberra mid November, so container is on the way!

I have tried all the commercial storage, container and removalist firms, but none can help at present, so looking for property or space somewhere else, would perfer south side, queanbeyan area and yes rent will be paid.

Anyone with any ideas or contacts would be welcome!

Thanks

Hi there,
The situation we are facing here in Canberra is that I can’t seem to find any where to store 40ft containers. We are an import business facing the fact we can’t de-hire these containers in Sydney depots as they are at critical capacity. We are looking at 5 – 10 40ft containers in January that we possible can’t de-hire and looking for options in Canberra. All help here would be appreciated as we are desperate.

Best Regards.

Stuart

Thanks, sorted out for 3 months.

40 footers are relatively rare here you might have real trouble. I’m not sure how to get the word out but it seems to me that there are lots of small semi rural holdings on the edge of town that might be interested in some easy money in storage. What would be a fair price?

Call in at 62 Sheppard St, Hume. You could be lucky.

Thanks for idea’s about the conditions that my container may be stored,it is fine as it is, no mold, has plenty of airvents etc have had it over 5years! appears some have no idea what a shipping container is,a nice dry and clean place to store. What I ‘REALLY’ need is somewhere to place it, none of the commercial places can help. All full at present.

Thanks

A shipping container is under cover isn’t it?

I store plenty of stuff in shipping containers and sheds and unless you pack your clothes away wet I’ve never had any mold problems.
As for saying Canberra is Humid, compared to where? It’s one of the driest places around, that’s why I like it so much.

Canberra used to have really dry summers – in recent years there has been a lot more humidity.

Drop it next to the converted container housing the Aboriginal Embassy opposite the old parliament house in King George Terrace, Parkes. Storage and accommodation is free in this precinct.
Site it on the side where the Lobby Restaurant is and call it the “West Wing”. This will add status to your container.

cck I’d definitely try to at least get it stored under cover of some kind. Canberra’s summers are a lot more humid than they used to be and there’s quite a risk of mold damage, so re anything vulnerable to mold (clothes, shoes, paintings, furniture, manchester) it’s worth putting the effort into unpacking the container into clean dry standard storage … mold will destroy your things and can’t be fixed.

I know theres a storage yard in Mitchell with the room, they store several containers, cars and the odd bus outside.
