The National Capital Authority is letting us know they’re conducting a controlled burn on Spinnaker Island tomorrow.

The burn will clear piles of weeds, and invasive exotic vegetation removed on Spinnaker Island last year.

NCA Executive Director of National Capital Estate, Alison Walker-Kaye said Canberrans should be aware of the burning.

“The control burn will cause some smoke in the area. Every effort will be made to minimise the impact of the smoke,” said Ms Walker-Kaye.

That island is know for its “weed” burn offs.

Gee, I hope they put sufficient containment in place. It would be terrible if the fire spread and see fire to the lake….

I would imagine you could cover the whole island in fire and it would still be ‘controlled’.

The parliamentary triangle is NCA territory and so nothing to do with TAMS. Welcome to the National capital.

“The burn will clear piles of weeds, and invasive exotic vegetation removed on Spinnaker Island last year.”

I know things can get a little bogged down in TaMS sometimes but damn these bastards are slow to get things done!

What was the big hold up? Did they have to form a committee to decide what to do with the piles of weeds? Did they put the bon-fire out to tender? Perhaps they had to commission an Environmental Impact Study into the burn? I would suggest by now that mother nature has probably intervened and the island is now home to some fat juicy bugs.

Or for the conspiracy theorists among us, perhaps it is a cover up for the ANU Organisation of (29) Critical Students bra-burning ceremony?
