Spring and summer are all about (changeable) colour

By Rachel Ziv - 18 October 2016 4

DragonSkin

As the weather warms up we all get a little extra spring in our step: ditching the layers of clothing and closed doors, and opening up to warm breezes, sunny days and bright colours of the months ahead.

Studies have shown that we generally feel happier in the warmer months, and a group with a mission to help us add more colour to our lives are the owners of DragonSkin.

Officially launching at the Canberra Home Show this weekend, DragonSkin allows you to temporarily colour and protect almost any surface. Unlike other paint products, DragonSkin is flexible, waterproof and has a rubbery-like texture. It grips to non-porous surfaces such as wood, metal, melamine, plastic, vinyl and more, and with a thick coating can be quickly and easily removed.

Removable paint

Max Jenkins, DragonSkin’s Marketing Manager, says, “This product is unbelievably versatile. In fact, we have almost 500 ways in which it can be used, and we’ll be demonstrating a range of them at the Canberra Home Show.”

“For Canberrans, we’re most excited about its application within rental properties.”

He says customers can colour and brighten extensive areas within a home, such as kitchen benches and cupboards, and then remove the DragonSkin when a lease is up.

“It doesn’t require any preparation. You just spray on, and can even play around with mixing colours to achieve the look you want,” Mr Jenkins says.

“We also have a lot of interest from cycling groups, looking to temporarily colour-coordinate their bikes with bright, fluorescent colours for long rides.

“And because the paint is tough and waterproof, it also acts as a barrier between the road and original paintwork on the bike. This is especially exciting for 4WD and caravan owners, who can use the clear version solely to protect the paintwork on their vehicles before they hit the road.”

Cycling Paint

It’s a unique concept that has picked up quite a bit of traction overseas, and has become popular with car-lovers and sports fans who love to colour-coordinate for events, and then show up at work on Monday with their regular car.

“This type of paint has traditionally been used only in the motor industry,” Mr Jenkins says. “And while DragonSkin is perfect for car lovers, bikers and sports fans as well, we’re keen to show its applications in other areas. From kids’ birthdays to protecting the glass sliding door from pet scratches: the possibilities are endless.”

DragonSkin can be found at the Canberra Home Show, which runs this Friday to Sunday at Exhibition Park in Canberra.

If you’re not heading to the show, check out the DragonSkin Facebook page for more info and images.

wow that sounds super cool. Reminds of those nail polishes that comes off like rubber after you apply. Maybe it is the same thing

Ah, this is cool … I’ve seen similar products imported from overseas but nice to know there’s a local option.

So it’s safe to use on cars? #askingforafriend 😉

What a versatile product. I’ll have to go and check out their booth this weekend at the show.

Definitely safe for cars. It grips (not sticks) to surfaces, so as long as there are enough layers to grab hold of from a corner edge it peels right off!

I’m combining white and clear to block out the front windows in my house. Together it makes this awesome frosted look!
