The ongoing challenges created by the COVID pandemic won’t be enough to stop Canberra’s 11th Enlighten Festival.

The 17 days of free celebrations will be staged in a COVID-safe way and registrations have already opened for many activities.

Running from 26 February to 14 March 2021, Enlighten brings together a variety of exciting events including the Canberra Balloon Spectacular, Lights! Canberra! Action!, Symphony in the Park, Canberra Day and the ever popular Enlighten Illuminations in the Parliamentary Triangle in Parkes.

Some of the capital’s most loved and iconic buildings will come to life as the Illuminations light up after dark on the National Portrait Gallery, National Library of Australia, National Gallery of Australia, Australian Parliament House, Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House and Questacon.

Registrations are not required for viewing the projections and installations, however when onsite people will be encouraged to use the Check In CBR app.

The capital’s major attractions will also open their doors to host an array of exclusive after-dark events.

Enlighten Alley will feature local street food and family-fun activities and entertainment, while Bentspoke Beer Garden will offer a selection of locally brewed, award-winning beers and cider alongside a great selection of local food vendors.

On 5 March the spotlight will be on Canberra’s talented film-makers when the creations of the Lights! Camera! Action! short film finalists are screened in the Senate Rose Gardens at the Museum of Australian Democracy.

The Canberra Balloon Spectacular will take to the skies from 6 to 14 March, and on 7 March the Canberra Symphony Orchestra will once again feature at Stage 88 for a night of 70s nostalgia with BABBA, to perform ABBA’s greatest hits in Commonwealth Park.

Audience numbers at Symphony in the Park are capped and attendees will be required to book a free ticket in advance.

Canberra Day on 8 March includes a new event, Breakfast at Balloons, where Skywhale and Skywhale Papa will make an appearance. Festivities will continue through the day and conclude with the closing night of Enlighten Illuminations.
