Style Scene is a series that showcases the best of Canberra’s street fashion. Produced by Daniella Jukic, Style Scene is out to prove that the nation’s capital is just as fashion-conscious as its big-city counterparts.

Street style photography is a great way to show that fashion has a place in our everyday life. Fashion from the catwalk is translated to the streets as wearable trends. What we wear is an expression of our individual style. My aim is to focus my lens on the streets of Canberra to show that fashion is very much alive in the nation’s capital.

While enjoying my time at Contentious Character in the hills of Wamboin with a wine in hand, I took some time to chat with the ever so stylish host and owner Tony.

Name: Tony Mansfield

Occupation: Co-Owner of Contentious Character Winery

Describe your style in three words? Expect the unexpected.

What can’t you live without? My Blundstone boots for tramping around the vineyard.

No Blundstone boots in this shot. Tony has a classic pair of blue suede loafers on here.

Tony, in your past profession you used to be a Marketing Executive. Now that you have moved into the role at Contentious Character how has this evolved your style?
Essentially it’s come to a crashing halt as I no longer have time to shop – the last time I shopped was at Lowes for King Gee Work wear to wear on the farm at Contentious Character!

What attracted you to the toile MJ bale short suit that you are currently wearing?
I loved the idea of turning up at formal events in a short suit – it touched my rebellious self and I like to take the odd daring step into the unexpected, challenging people around me now and again.

“Be yourself in the moment,” Tony Mansfield says.

Where is your favourite place to shop in Canberra?
MJ Bale or DJ’s Designer section.

What is it about MJ Bale that keeps you going back?
Frankly, for a long time it was the only decent men’s fashion store in Canberra…apart from the odd Calibre piece in DJ’s.

What is your favourite piece of fashion advice?
Be yourself in the moment.

Do you prefer dressing in colour or neutrals?
For many years I was always in black, now I like some colour….although winter in Canberra is perfect for black!

Describe your worst fashion faux pas?
Turning up in a suit at a wedding on the Gold Coast when everyone else was in shorts and thongs, I so should’ve worn this short suit!

Tony kills the short-suit look.
