We’re well into summer holidays, events, and the party season! Many Canberrans have been attending weddings, functions, partying hard and heading to the coast. It’s easy to stay stylish on the regular and pack light for those trips away when you master the art of capsule wardrobing.
Whether it’s your New Year’s Eve ensemble, your wedding guest outfit or any other dressed up occasion, it’s super easy to transform your outfit into something casual. This way you can always look fab even though you’ve packed a small bag for a wedding weekend, holiday trip or weekend away! The key is to re-use pieces from your outfit to mix with basics and accessories from your wardrobe. Here, we’ve used two examples to give you a few capsule wardrobe ideas for minimalist packing or daily use!
1. The Floral Summer Dress
The summer floral is often versatile enough to be worn dressed up (with heels) to a wedding/function or even worn casually. To deconstruct the ‘dressed up’ look, I would wear the dress with a pair of brown flat gladiator-style sandals and a denim bag. Because this particular dress has lots of colour and a floral pattern, I would keep it simple and go with very little plain jewellery or none at all.
- Party Skirt and Blouse Ensemble
This ensemble is a lime green sleeveless blouse that can be used for a corporate look with a black pencil skirt or pants. Here, the model is wearing the blouse with a white tulle skirt; a great outfit for a party or special occasion.
The Blouse: I would take this lime green blouse and pair it with the following to make it causal:
- Panama hat;
- Denim shorts (or other shorts);
- Flat sandals;
- Brown satchel.
The Tulle Skirt: Tulle skirts can be a bit tricky to make casual but if you add a t-shirt with a little bit of boho inspiration, you might be able to pull it off. Here’s a suggestion of what to add to make it casual:
- T-shirt;
- Sunglasses;
- Brown wood boho necklace and bracelet;
- Flat sandals;
- Satchel.
