Summer is here!

A friend who works in Civic had the brilliant idea of spending lunch hitting the dive platforms of Civic Pool.

Sheer genius, it’s the best $6 you’ll spend this summer!

(Note to readers who’ve been out of school for a while and thus unused to being shouted at by authority figures: there are many rules at the pool and chances are if someone’s shouting it’s at you)

I think it’s two things:

1) In a plane the ground is a long, long way away.

2) There’s a lot more gear and equipment giving feelings of reassurance.

I agree with that sentiment. I find it far more terrifying jumping off the ten metre platform than I found skydiving. When you jump out of a plane, it all looks pretend. When you jump off the high platform, you can clearly see the expectant faces of all those people below who are secretly hoping you land on your back or front.

Did you jump off top tower JB?

Sadly the 10m was closed. So just fun off the five today.

It was interesting though, first time around I can safely say that I’ve jumped out of planes with less trepidation than going off the 5m tower for the first time in many years.

ahhh – many a summer spent jumping of the 10 meter in 8 pairs of shorts and the obligitory okanui outer skin. My spine is still regretting to this day. Bombs away….wait can I get arrested for saying that…?

Let me just shake it first before I put it away…
